February 19 - 22, 2010

Seasoned snowboarders won’t want to miss this four day intensive adventure camp which includes exploration of intermediate and advanced terrain at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, and an unforgettable journey into pristine backcountry in the nearby Elk Mountains on the snowboarder’s backcountry essential: the splitboard. Participants will receive a solid introduction to, and experience with, riding a splitboard, increased on-mountain skills, and a broad knowledge of backcountry safety basics. The weekend will culminate in a one-of-a-kind wilderness experience on Snodgrass Mountain, a beautiful backcountry setting with spectacular glades and powder stashes galore. Backcountry travel days dependent on weather/snow conditions.

the title makes me think it's for handicapped riders.

You are right - this event is for riders with disabilities.

does this include people who cannot walk. do you have sit skiing or anything of that nature?

I don't know how you are going to get anyone who has to sit ski out in the backcountry without a snow cat or some one towing them in. This adventure does not sound like it's set up for that. I know there are other adventures out there that cater to the sit skier getting bc turns.

And what are those? My dad is disabled but absolutely loves the mountains in colorado. I think something like sit skiing would be great for him.

Does he know how to sit ski already or are you talking about him learning to sit ski? If it's the former, call around to the snow cat operations in the state. I know some of them have experience in this area.

If it's the latter, Winterpark has an internationally recognized program in adaptive skiing. I've met several people who have come from Europe to learn to sit ski there. There are other mountains that have sit ski programs, I just know that Winterpark is one of the best there is.
