Snow conditions in alaska can not be predictable in alaska , and the 34 inch base is at the bottom sea level. 88 at the top. Turnigan was prime in december .
I got a 01 800 rmk for BC. I'll try and be around , but we'll see where the snow is. The conditions in fairbanks suck.

Yeah, I know. I am no stranger to Alaska; I lived in Fairbanks from 1984 through 1987. I have ridden Alyeska every year for the last 3 years and this year`s base is the lowest so far. I am hoping that by waiting until March, a few storms will come through and increase that.

That will be the opening weekend of Tailgate Alaska. On friday night, we will have a reception at the Totem then move on to the Pipeline where Salem will play. On Saturday afternoon, the Fish Frye will go down in town then Jesse Cross at the Pipeline. On Sunday, we will be tailgating on the pass. We will have 2 yurts, our tent, a cabin, some kind of sweet BBQ set up and the Alaskan Brewing beer garden if full swing. .
Should be a good time to come to the event. Also, feel free to add yourself to the Facebook event page... we are going to have an amazing crew of people up there this year.

For snowcat, heli and sled riding, would I be better off coining Monday? I am there for the riding mainly and it sounds like things will not be in full gear until Monday.

Mooz, I will be flying into Anchorage on the 24`th of March. I will be hitting this even that weekend, then will be at Alyeska the rest of that week. The following weekend I will be up in Fairbanks. Then, the remainder of the week, will be splitting my time between Alyeska and Hatchers Pass, then fly back home on Friday April 9. At any point in that window, if you decide to come up, let`s ride together. If you want to comt to Tailgate. we might think about splitting the cost of a rental RV and staying right there at Thompson Pass.

You know you want to....and hey, you only live once.... After looking at this, I am going to rent an RV. They have an awesome deal with Tailgate and the 29 footer is $95 a day. By the time I pay for my rental car and a hotel in Valdez, it would be a hell of lot more. I will pick up an RV in Anchorage and drive to Thompson Pass where I can fully immerse myself in this awesome environment. If you were to make it, we are talking about $45 a night each; hard to beat that kind of price for something of this epic caliber....

Mooz, looking at my calendar, I have kind of made an itinerary for this.
I will be flying into PANC on the afternoon of March 24`th and riding at Alyeska on the 25`th. Will pick up the rental RV (I`ve decided to go for this option) and driving to Thompson Pass. Will be there Friday March 26`th through Wednesday March 31`st returning the RV to Anchorage late that night. on Thursday the 1`st of April I will return the RV and then go ride for the day and night at Alyeska.
On Friday, I drive to Fairbanks to ride at Mt. Aurora, soak in the pool at Chena Hot Springs under the Northern Lights and hang around my old stomping grounds when I lived up there in the 1980`s (Eielson AFB 4 years). Will come back to Anchorage on Sunday night April 4`th and split my time at Alyeska and Hatchers Pass until Friday night on the 9`th when I catch a red eye back to the lower 48....

Ah damn it. This trip just is not in my budget this year. I am going to have to pass on my Alaska trip for this year. Rest assured though, I am stocking away money starting now for Tailgate Alaska 2011.
