I'm gonna be up at Jay April 4th through April 6. Friday through Sunday. There are 8 of us renting out one of the big townhouses on the mountain. If anyones planning on heading up that weekend, feel free to post up and we can exchange contact info and get some runs in or stop by for a beer.
Our group is primarily intermediate to advanced skiers and riders. But, w/ my knee being pretty shot, I intend to stay out of the glades (probly wont last) and spend most of the time carving up any corn I can find / practicing my switch riding w/ the lovely little new board. |

I work saturday morning but I'll be up at around 1 and I'll be there all day on sunday. I'll probably be staying out of the trees myself since I messed up my hand pretty bad yesterday in the woods.

Actually it was the woods between everglade and staircase that you see over on the right when going up the freezer. The trees are denser than ugly tree and its a whole lot steeper. I was trying to cut through the branches of a big pine tree but they were folded down with snow and frozen to the ground. Made it kind of like hitting a concrete wall. Fortuanately the X-rays say that my hand is not broken but it is still the size of a softball.

ARGH!!!! Can't ya'll do the next weekend? (Rhetorical Question) I will be in Sugarloaf, ME the weekend of which you speak. However, I will be in New Hampshire the end of the following week and looking to possibly board somewhere that weekend. (April 11-13th)

And that was a worthy weekend to be elsewhere, for sure! Believe me, I'm considering bothering you that weekend. I wanted to ride the weather wave to see where things take me. I have a conference in Nashua, NH on Thursday and Friday. My weekend will commence in New England, somewhere. I am just not sure where, yet.
I hope you enjoyed your gigglefest this past weekend. I took a weekend of lay-low before my next three weekends.

Just let me know anytime you are up this way. I do have space for ya. Saturday was beautiful. about 6" of fluff on some nice hard pack. Makes even the dense woods pretty fast but that can lead to trouble. Like my big purple hand.

Conditions will probably be pretty good spring conditions. I was just talking to my cousin the other day and he said that the base is over a foot deeper than it usually is when spring weather finally hit (Sunday) And he wouldn't be surprised to see some of the mountain open in may. The trees will be titanium if its cold out but Id expect the groomers to be in pretty good shape.

OMG what a great weekend.
8" of fresh friday through sat morning. Good stuff all day Saturday. Sunday was bluebird and hot. Our shirtless final run didnt even feel cold. My plan to not spend much time in the air, on choppy runs, and out of the glades failed after the first run. We did it all Canyonlands, Timbuktu, the ridge, Green Beret, Deliverence, the park, bump runs, etc. Each time I go up to Jay, I leave happy, exhausted, and this time, in a hell of alot of pain. Our bomber shirtless run from the summit got alot of laughs and attention from the lift. Especially when our long limbed, tall skier friend, decided to launch full speed off a jump spread eagle 80s style. Rediculous. Haha, I'm glad we could give something back to everyone that makes that place so great. What an awesome way to end the season. |
