Is anyone interested? I am willing to 'host' the meet in Revelstoke this season. Anyone interested should be at least a strong intermediate rider able to comfortably ride steep terrain, deep powder, trees, navigational skills, etc.
A few ideas include a couple days riding the resort, a day of backcountry (Rogers Pass likely), natural hot springs, backcountry cabin overnighter with noboarding... We could also coincide the event with the Tailgate Revy or Splitboard Fest dates if there is interest to do so. Last edited by chupacabraman; 10-15-2012 at 05:46 PM. |

Chupa,
Not sure when you are thinking, but my friends and I had such a blast in Revelstoke last year, we've booked another trip. Right now, it's me and three skiers. We're flying into Calgary on Tues 1/22 and driving to Revelstoke that afternoon. Our fallback plan if Rogers pass is closed is to hit Lake Louise or Kicking Horse on the east side until we can get through. We're in Revelstoke through Monday 1/28, then heading back east for a day at Kicking Horse on Tuesday, then flying back home out of Calgary on Wednesday 1/30. We're planning some more backcountry sledding on the weekend as a break. Not sure how this might coincide with your plans, but either way, PM me; it would be cool to meet up, if even for a burger/beer at the Nomad or the Idiot. |

My wife is due late Jan, so I have a moratorium on any big trips for all of Jan and Feb, but if this was March/April I would be down for sure. I'd love to do a lodge overnight get do some splitting at Roger's pass.

I'd be down for a Western Canadian meet... Haven't been to Revelstoke yet and it's on my list. Don't have a splitboard or the funds for heli-cat boarding at this point (unless we got some massive discount for having a whole group, I know KPOW at Fortress works out to $150 a person or so if you rent the whole cat).
My season pass includes kicking horse and lake louise so I'd be down for a meet that included those as well. Not sure what natural hot spring you're talking about, but I've been to the Lussier hot springs in the Canal Flats area and it was great, methinks that's quite the drive from Revelstoke though. I've got buddies at work that board too, so if you're taking the lead on this, let me know the dates and details and I'll spread the word. You thinking of renting a group of chalets/condos or something similar to the Jay Peak meet? Been on a few meets with my old university and the condo thing always worked out well... |

I'll be up at the Asulkan Hut for a couple nights after the splitboard fest. I still need to book my hotel in Revy for the actual festival. We should hook up and ride together one day at Roger's that weekend.

Good idea having the option of another hill during the meet (probably Kicking Horse I'm thinking?) It's hard to guarantee due to highway closures and snowfall but it can be planned for with RMR as a fallback plan. Although from experience living here... lots of people talk pre-season about going to ride all these other sick hills, but the majority of them (and usually myself included) end up staying here because the conditions are usually better or the highway is closed. Good idea man. About the condos/etc... not for me man (see below) ------- I like the idea of coinciding this with the Splitboard Festival dates... that way everyone can do both RMR & Rogers Pass properly and safely (and would be a blast!) There seems to be some interest about that. Splitboard Fest is on Jan 5-6. Also the Freeski/Freeride World Tour comes to RMR Jan 7-12. If you don't know what this is I highly recommend checking it out on YouTube. These both also provide a good nightlife of visiting ski-bums without too many tourists at this time. Plus it is ALWAYS puking hard those weeks I'm not sure how much of a 'host' I want to commit to. Maybe one of the other Revelstoke guys on the forum wants to get in on it. My work schedule can always change; there is no guarantee for my days booked off. Booking hotels/cat-ski/condos/restaurants/tickets for this type of thing is something that I wan't no part of. I am no guide so anyone planning to go backcountry (inc. resort out-of-bounds) should be properly equipped and trained to manage the conditions, which also makes the Splitfest dates a great idea. All that being said, it seems like there is enough interest to pull something off here. I think the best way to do a meet is to keep the planning simple so that it can accommodate most people, be relatively simple to organize, and affordable. The weather will be a huge influence anyway and the highway closes often (Eagle Pass, Rogers Pass, Kicking Horse Pass). Kelowna is the best airport to fly into. Very small and quick but with international flights, only 2.5hrs from Revelstoke, and through Eagle Pass instead of Rogers Pass. These pics are from yesterday. 54cm snowfall measured at 2000m; more in the bowl. Sledded up from <1000m. Not a bad way to celebrate my 30th Bday! https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-q...e1%2520018.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-8...e1%2520025.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-9...e1%2520027.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4...e1%2520030.jpg https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-A...e1%2520032.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_...e1%2520039.jpg Last edited by chupacabraman; 10-22-2012 at 06:45 PM. So I was going to head up to the Washington area for these dates, I'm on a road trip and I have so much time to , after reading this, I think I'm going to head up to Revelstoke. I want to check out the splitfest and also the Free ride tour, not sure about where I'll stay, Í'm going to hit up couchsurfing.org and see if I can find anybody in the area that could possibly let me crash on the couch or floor, or even let me just take a shower and I'll stay in my truck which was my original plan for most of my trip. Any plans that are made though I'd be stoked to part of

Interest seems kind of wishy-washy and I am not sure if I can be fully commited to this because of so much all shit going on this season, so I'm withdrawing from setting this up. If any of you guys do end up here, hit me up with a PM I might be around. Besides, it's not THAT good here anyway, I'm sure you guys would all enjoy Whistler a lot more
