Season passes and Advantage Cards are on sale now :jumping1: You kno what that means. Winter is coming... This will be my first full season and I'll probably be getting the Advantage card this time with the wife. Thought long and hard about a pass, but doubt we would both use it enough to make it worth it. We need to use the Advantage about 20x to equal the passes value. This will be a test year to see how much we go. Can't wait! Anyone else going here or Liberty / Roundtop?

That's really the only option we have that's decent without a long drive. And yes, that's what I was saying. I've been over the numbers a lot. Two season passes at $469 and 369 each is $838 for two of us. For $159 pass, we have a long way to get to that number. I think it was between 18 to 20 visits to get to the two pass equivalent. I'm talking weekends mostly and the occasional weekday maybe during the season. If it was just me, then the pass may be the better option at $469.

My math shows if you and your wife go more than 9 times a season pass would be cheaper and if less than 9 times the advantage card is cheaper. The thing to remember as well is if you have a season pass that doesn't require you to spend $80 every time you go, you will be more inclined to go because you can just walk up to the lift and ride whenever you want. Cash out of pocket each time can deter you from going. So I'm saying it would be easy to get 10+ days and most likely get you around 20+ days with a season pass. Especially if you are new and have a lot to learn, a small mountain is still really fun when new.

See, that's where it gets tricky. I don't think she will go more than 5-6 times with me and ski, but she may surprise me. She may lose interest after a couple times. That would leave me with more trips. That's why I'm feeling it out this year first to see how much we can physically make it up there with weather and such. If I paid over $800+ out at the beginning for 2 passes, I feel I may not make that back if she loses interest. At $159 and a few discounts, we ended up at break even.

Normally they don't do group buys for season passes which is what the sales person says, so she's talking to her manager to get the final numbers to us. I'll let you guys know in case someone is interested. Need about 15 people (I think I have about that much in terms of interest within my company and group of friends).

It's not the snow. Whitetail/Liberty/Roundtop are pretty good at blowing snow throughout the season, weather permitting.

It's just that you get tired of riding it after a while. It's the same run over and over again and its over faster than the time you wait to get on the lifts.

Usually I do a season pass at Whitetail and also do one for Snowshoe. The Whitetail passes will be good for a couple of weekends out of the month and with the snowshoe season pass being so cheap ($200 if you get it early enough), it's worth to get it just for the discounts at the other resorts alone (like 7 Springs).

Damn...whitetail hasn't gotten back to me about the pricing for the group season pass. Need to give them a call today....

Every year they sell the pass in March/April for the next season for about $200 for a month or so. Once that ends, the season price goes back to normal.

Last season I was driving from Columbia, MD to Snowshoe almost every weekend. Even with the snow, I never really had a problem. Lodging around the area is relatively affordable and in Snowshoe staff is always on hand to help tow people if your car does get stuck. That being said, I never had that problem with AWD and good tires.

We were out there the weekend it dumped, that being said wasn't a bad resort I just prefer seven springs its closer and its just a chill place to ride. Plus the slopes are nice and open. Do you stay in snowshoe or I think the next town over is marlinton if im correct.

I try and stay in Snowshoe.

Unfortunately, there are at times when it does get booked solid or the prices for units available are just outrageous. Whenever that happens, I book a room at the Brazenhead:
BrazenHead Inn ~ a traditional Irish inn ~ Mingo WV

Pretty close to Snowshoe. We usually just drive to Snowshoe Inn and take the shuttle from there. The rooms are pretty good and nicely laid out and the food/bar is decent.

My first bindings purchased last year were the Rome 390 Boss. I love them. Then I purchased a Nitro TEAM set used from here and those feel good too, but haven't ridden them yet. Nice bindings and smooth operation. And Nitro sent me discs for the Burton board for free just for asking. Can't beat that service.

Anyone starting to wonder when these temps will drop? It's looking like 50's straight into December. :facepalm2: This is the first year I've bought any type of pass and sure hope I can use it a few times to make it worth it. We had snow on Thanksgiving last year. No reason for a resort to make snow if it's just going to melt at day break.

Honestly we have been spoiled by November openings the past few years. As frustrating as it is a December opening is not horrible. Trust me you will be fine getting good use out of your pass. I have had one the past three years and it paid for itself by the end of January. Being able to skip ticket lines and get first tracks on busy days is the best part. Now I guess that all depends how often you go but It will be worth it. Did you nab one for the early season prices?

Well they turned on the snow makers last night at Whitetail. Not sure how it's going to hang around in 60 degree weather later in the week, but here's to hoping it keeps getting colder. Probably test running the new machine and tweaking since it's cold enough.

Whitetail said the guns coming on Sunday night was the first test of their new snow system and that they need to get everything dialed in before they start going to town. So at earliest, and this is just me hoping (un-realistically), an opening of like Dec 5th.

How much snow can they realistically make each night? Any idea? I thought the temps were supposed to get back to the 60s for a bit. Can't see that being a good thing for making as it will melt it. But I'd like to see an earlier start, don't get me wrong. This will be my first real season and can't wait. :hairy:

This weather is really starting to dull my hopes. Two boards all ready to go and nothing but sunny skies and spring like weather in the middle of December. Saw a forecast for unusually low snowfall for the mid-Atlantic yesterday which doesn't brighten the spirits one bit. At this rate I'll have to go west to board again. Does anyone know what they do as far as passes are concerned if they don't open till late winter? They can't even put snow on the ground as it would just melt. By the time they could it's looking like mid January at this point, that is IF the weather ever turns. Just venting.. I wanna ride.

How many seasons have you been riding here? The last couple seasons we have been lucky with crazy early opening days. Its usually like this. If i recall opening day 3 or 4 years ago was around new years. There will be plenty of snow days to be had. I wouldn't start to get worried until its after new years and they don't have snow on the ground. If you need a early fix hit up snowshoe. They open tomorrow.

I only started last year. Towards the end of the season. February was the first time I ever boarded at all. Having lived here all my life and shoveling the snow from October on the past few years, this would be the year it decides not to snow. I looked at the webcam for Snowshoe and it too looks sparse. I know they are usually hammered by now with snow. Oh well, here's to hoping it comes sooner rather than later.

Last year was one of the best seasons we have had in years as far as how long it was and preseason not so much snowfall. So I expected the season to start late this year aka the snow gods. Just hope its not like 2012 they had so little snow liberty could only open half there park. Im expecting a Christmas opening this dont get hung up on the 10 day forecast watch the 5 day shit changes daily when it comes to weather.

#52 ·
Seriously this is getting sad we need some cold weather bad..... all my boards are in got a new ns risaw, last years banana magic, and a garage rocker and there all just sitting here collecting dust.

#53 ·
With a 70 degree forcast for Christmas eve, I doubt whitetail or liberty will be open before the middle of the first week of January. Best bet to get some pre-January turns in is to go north. I went to Blue yesterday, who also opened for today. Seven Springs is set to open for tomorrow, and Camelback opened today, but they won't be able to stay open long. Hopfully it gets cold and can stay cold soon.

Looks like were gunna have about 2 good weeks for them to fire the guns up at night looks like they will be open by next Friday. At least I hope so I already took of work Friday so I can try and get in 3 days next weekend.Still could use some real snow and colder temps during the days.
