Mt. Bohemia info??

Anybody been there? We are planning a trip up there over the long MLK weekend. Not sure if we are going to stay in a yurt at the place or get a hotel in Houghton, any recommendations or closer reasonably priced hotels? I see it's pretty primitive as far as the accommodations, do people usually hit a grocery store and pack a cooler or is there Subways nearby, etc. Any advise for things to bring or be aware of would be appreciated.

One other thing, how are the roads maintained up there? Either driving a 4x4 Jimmy or 4x4 f150.

Seems as tho BoHo is on most of the MI SBF members list of "Want to Go" but can't recall if any of us actually have. So, I've been up there in the fall for photography but I've ever been up that way in winter. Roads in the UP are mostly winding two lane blacktop. And that region can get up to 10-12 ft. of snow in a season, so be prepared. (...you'll need the 4x4!)

....if you do go, post it up in the MI regional forum! We all want to hear from someone with first hand experience with the place! ;)

I've been there multiple times. Love it. I have done more 'extreme' skiing there than anywhere out west. Mostly because I'm too lazy to find the spots out west and don't really want to break any rules.

Last I was there was about 8 years ago? I stayed in town at a dumpy motel.

I haven't been and have mostly read good things, (I had put it on my bucket list), however did read a few posts from folks who say that it can get mobbed with families with little kids, parts of it aren't as extreme and it can get a bit tracked out because it does get a bit busy. No personal experience, I can't find the thread that I read, it might not have been on this board.

Are you sure they were talking about the same Boho, because it's like 99 percent black and double blacks. Not exactly a kid/family friendly place at all. I don't even think they groom the few non-glade runs that they have. But I don't know for sure because I also have never been there personally.

Yes, that one, I was very surprised as well. It was a couple comments I think by people in the response area after a review. Would love to hear from folks who've been there in the past couple years.

They have no grooming ability. One year, they had giant iced over moguls everywhere that were a pain in the ass, tracks got carved down shoots that made you feel more like a bobsleder . Not fun at all. That was my only bad experience.

There is a motel in copper harbor you could stay at. I always have stayed in houghton when I go over there. It's 45 min to an hour, drive so not to bad, and there's actually stuff to do at night in houghton.
