Default Best place 4-5 hours from Chicago

So guys and gals I'm looking for a mountain in the midwest that is 4-5 hrs from chicago. I'm looking for the place with the longest runs, I don't mess around in the terrain park, so that won't matter much to me. I know that granite peak and crystal mountain are 4-5 hours away. Does anyone know which one is better in terms of length of the runs. Or is there some other place that is better than both of those?
Thanks

2 hour flight on southwest to denver, 90 minutes to *pick your resort. 3 hour flight to SLC, 30minutes to *pick your resort.

Chicago sucks for snowboarding. Nothing but park nearby.

Ok thanks for nothing, smartass. Do you have nothing better to do with your time than leave idiotic answers on a snowboard forum? Grow up and get a life.

Righteous anger and fury! I'm only the king of the internet though, IRL just regular.

Seriously driving longer from Chicago doesn't get you shit until you are like in the UP of Michigan by which time you could have already gone to CO and back. All the runs are short. All! If you are gonna commit to riding in the midwest you may as well wrap your head around some park riding or pick up snowshoeing or something.

I can't speak for Crystal, but I do work at Granite.

We have 700' of vertical and our longest run is over a mile long.
Difficulty of runs is pretty much evenly distributed.

6 pack high speed lift in center of hill. 4 man quad high speed in West. 1 old 2 seater in the East, 1 3 seater near that, and 2 other lifts that run during the holiday season. 2 magic carpets.

75 runs when we are 100% open. Right now I'd guess we are at 90%.

Over 300 acres of tree skiing.

Runs are lit everywhere except for the far West.

Normal business hours are either 9-9 or 10-9. Sunday we close at 4 except for holiday weekends when we stay open until 9pm on Sunday.

If you come, get here early, ride Comet up and take the top chute over to the West. Dasher quad high speed there and the best area of riding during the day. When the west closes at 4, take Blitzen lift to the top and head over to the far East and use the Cupid lift all night. These routes keep you out of the parks, give you plenty of good blue/black runs, and little to no wait for the lift. Nice glades in both areas.

Comet lift gets congested. That services the bulk of our hill and our 2 biggest terrain parks.

No carry-in food or alcohol into the hill, but feel free to tailgate in the huge parking lot. Chalet prices are insane, bring your own stuff!

Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions.

Mike your new and all is good and snowklinger is right if you have the money and time for that.

I don't so I make the best of what I have here. I ride a ton at Alpine Valley just up the road from you, hit me up if you ever want to take some runs. There are several Chi-town guys that I meet to ride with there.

To your question, Granite Peak is the best, closest. Next, anywhere in the UP for a long weekend, drive is about 7-8 hrs depending where in Chi you are.
Then Devils Head followed by Cascade. If you did a weekend you could hit both those as they are just a few miles apart.

With that all said I and my 2 kids and possibly several members of the forum and other friends are hitting Granite Peak Jan 23-26 for a long weekend of riding. You are more than welcome to join in. It's very informal. If you want to just say hi and ride by yourself, cool. If you want to just meet for lunch, cool. If you want to ride with us, cool, again very informal but we had a blast last year.
As Derp said there are tons of runs over 160 I think, great park and great trees. Last year we rode nearly all glades as many of us that was our 1st time riding glades and we had an absolute blast.

Just thought I'd throw all this out there for ya and feel free to hit me up about riding together locally or heading up on that weekend

I was pricing out a trip to head up to Bohemia in the UP next month from the chicago suburbs, and it turns out I would end up spending about the same amount to head to Colorado for the same amount of time. So looks like im heading out west and hitting up the smaller resorts(loveland,a-basin) and no 8 hour drive!. When I ride here though its usually devilshead, once in a while, Granite peak, I wish the lift passes there werent so darn expensive though
