Alright everyone since Summer is over, fall has just begun and we've already had our first rail jam of the year, it's time to start a new thread for the 10/11 winter.

Last year we had the "Southeast" michigan thread, but I think we should do all of Michigan. Sure, most of population lives in S/E michigan but we all ride the same resorts in the LP and even the UP if we get a chance, so we should have one thread to bring everyone together.

Cheers everyone we're probably only like 70 days from open resorts!

It gets worse. Temperatures dip for a few days at the end of this week, but the extended forecast is NOT FRIENDLY at all through the end of December. THIS FUCKING SUCKS.

I have the last two weeks of the year off/vacation time, and it's slow enough right now that I could arguably leave at any time, any day of the week, to go ride, but no fucking snow.

2012-2013 winter was like this and it fucks my vacation because, the only reason I save that much time for December is so that I can fucking use it to ride.

R/T air to Denver the weekend of January 8 is $170 on Southwest. just FYI.

Yeah so far that would seem to be a mistake. I had a trip planned a few years ago around 1/20, it was 2012/2013 which started out like this winter has, only not as bad. We ended up canceling a few days before we were scheduled to go, because they weren't even open yet. I think they did open the day before our trip was planned though, after receiving 20" of snow.

It can change quickly up there, but, bring your rock board.

My college pass was cheap so I'll still come out ahead, but if I was paying full-price I'd be doing some math right now...
Yup,..!!! I thought maybe I had made a big mistake not buying any season passes this season,.. Not for Boyne or the locals! (…I didn't want to spend $1100+ on passes only to find out my back is still too fucked to ride!)

Looks like maybe I made the right choice. I would have to make 5-6 three day weekend trips to Boyne just to make the pass pay off. Unless we get some sort of super cold, freaky long snowy spring,..? I just don't see that happening.

BTW,.. I bid some of my vacation Jan. 20-23rd to coincide with Deacon's, Slyder's BoHo trip. (… just in case the conditions up there were Epic & I could afford to go!) If that trip isn't going happen? I might be able to swing a last minute, mid week jaunt to CO!!! It's a thought anyway!

Boho needs 4 feet of snow to open. The Keweenaw currently only has 12 inches of total snow for this current winter, and I don't think much of that is on the ground right now. So, they'd have to get about 4 feet of snow in the next 3 or 4 weeks to open by Mid-January. The average snowfall totals for the past five winters up there are 37 inches for December and 46 inches for January. For the sake of simplicity, if you average these (since we are talking from mid-Dec to mid-Jan), you are looking at 41 inches for this period. So while not out of the question, I'd have to say it's a long shot for them to be truly open by that time, considering this is clearly a far, far below average winter.

Even with the bare minimum of snow to open, I still don't think it'd be worth going. Perhaps ruining a board, 13 hours of total travel, etc.

It'd be cool to hang with friends, but I'd rather just change plans and cruise to Colorado even if it's a little more money. Then, do Boho a different weekend.

Why couldn't you guys just cancel now to ensure a refund? What is their cancellation policy?

I am very strongly looking at Jan. 27th-31st for Colorado right now. Was going to go this weekend, but couldn't swing it with Christmas.

We're about to book a trip to Banff, Alberta for Jan 20-24 now, we're just mulling over lodge options. . I remember you and I were going back and forth on that weekend and what a shitshow it will be because of the holiday weekend. Should have no problem with that in Canada- no MLK day there!

This doesn't affect our March plans for Big Sky.

Michigan may suck this year, but it looks like it's pushing all of us to get some good times out west.

Get it!

Anyone else that's interested Trapper and I booked airfare to Denver: January 8 to 11. Flight arrives in DEN at 740am local time, so barring turrrrible road conditions we should get 3 full days on the slopes before coming home Monday morning.

If anyone else wants to tag along and split cost of hotel/rental car, hit me up and I'll send you the flight details.

Location TBD, I relaly don't want to shell out the $$$ for Summit County/Vail Resorts lift ticket prices (kicking myself now for not buying the Mt Brighton Epic pass...) so that means most likely we'll do A-Basin & Loveland (cheapest lift tickets with legit terrain) or possibly Winter Park.

WP lift is more $$ but at least there's a little town nearby. A-Basin/Loveland are kind of in no-man's-land.

January Bohemia dudes:

Since weather is not looking good, I looked up cabin cancellation policies. It looks like we can cancel within 15 days of our reservation.

If weather does not look promising, or snow hasn't accumulated enough, I will probably be bailing and re-routing to Colorado. I have the time off work, and if Bohemia is not getting snow, nowhere in Wisconsin is getting snow.

With that said, please let me know if this interests you as well. I'd love to go January 8th, but I don't know if I can swing that right now. We will see.

I might look to see if I can chill with any forum members as well.

Where are you guys going this weekend? Sunday looks like the day most places will be open in the NWLP. I'm probably going to be at Caberfae Sunday.

#6,171 ·
LMK if you decide to hit Cab. I will be solo on this mission, so if you and Lori both come, maybe you and I can get more laps in than we did a couple weeks ago. I'm planning on 10:00-2:00.

If Holly or PK opens this weekend, I'll probly go ride the WROD. Gotta find out how the back will hold up sometime. :dunno:

Too bad Boyne is too far for a day trip. Looks like the LE Machine should be runnin' all weekend. Might get a decent accumulation outta it!
