Alright everyone since Summer is over, fall has just begun and we've already had our first rail jam of the year, it's time to start a new thread for the 10/11 winter.

Last year we had the "Southeast" michigan thread, but I think we should do all of Michigan. Sure, most of population lives in S/E michigan but we all ride the same resorts in the LP and even the UP if we get a chance, so we should have one thread to bring everyone together.

Cheers everyone we're probably only like 70 days from open resorts!

Crystal Mountain was good on Saturday, despite the warm temps. The mornings were really, really nice soft groomers and I got back to the North Face lift right at 10am and had first tracks on almost everything out there. I was surprised the place in general was ridiculously busy. I mean, there were lines in the afternoon at the Clipper and Loki, but they weren't more than a couple minutes wait time.

Buck lift was closed. They had a fatality on Cheers on Friday I believe. Some local skier crashed into a snow machine.

So I'm bummed to see that this next round scheduled to hit is going to leave the northern LP largely unaffected. We we're making tentative plans to get up there mid-week if the storm was living up to the hype, but it looks like we're going to get it down here instead.

If Holly gets some action, I'll be looking at heading over there tomorrow or Wednesday night.

I may make it to Holly on Wednesday but probably only from 3-530 or so. Days are numbered here, holding out for at least this weekend and hopefully next. I have plans to go "up north" riding 3/20, probably at Caberfae unless Highlands is still open that late, in which case I may go there instead, because superpipe.

Also, I rode superpipe for the first time yesterday so I'm kinda stoked about riding one again.

Pipe is good, as much as I know. It's icy, but I have no idea if that's normal. It's smooth at least. I did a few laps through, but I'm only decent on my toe side. I go up and down the wall just fine toe side, but I don't have as much confidence on the back wall. I only get half as high (if that) and my cuts back down are more shallow.

On the bright side, when following my six year old around I decided to start riding switch. I can get down the greens switch now. I'll take it.

It's a no go for me tonight Sam, sorry.

I'll be at Crystal with Autumn this Sunday and that will likely be the next chance I really have to get out.

All good my man, thanks for the heads up.

I bet it was great last night for the people that braved the roads.
Naw,.. Buncha non driving pussies here in SE. MI! I checked PK's webcam last night around 8:30-9:00 and they were utterly deserted! I could see the lifts were running,.. not a soul on the slopes!! :facepalm3:

I made 3 trips up n down 275 last night in the storm for work! I'd have killed for the chance to get on the hill for that snow! >:)

The snow today at Mount Holly was really good. Their website was reported in 8 to 10 inches, to be honest I'd be surprised if they got half that much. But it was enough to cover everything soft snow dry snow, a little bit on the slow side but really overall pretty good.

I should be there on Sunday, trying to get a small crew together to go ride for a couple hours during the day.

I *might* be there for a quick few hours this afternoon, I rode pretty hard yesterday trying to master the DFDFD rail (finally got it a few times) and my legs and back feel pretty tired today.

I know I probably *shouldn't* ride today, but realistically I don't see any of the local hills surviving next week, so it's like how many days can I squeeze in here before it's gone?

PK is usually my go-to for quick laps if I duck out of work early but I think Holly's park is going to be better at this point. It was solid yesterday and they rebuilt again last night taking advantage of the new snow I guess, I hear they have like 24 different features & jumps. Plus the rope at Holly is soooo much easier than the long one at PK.

I like PK and all but at this point I think it's MTH or bust...

Pretty sure PK didnt even bother grooming for todays session! Snow wasnt bad, but I proly shouldnt have gone riding today with another bad cold! With this looking like the last weekend they can be open, I'm hoping to go again tomorrow if I haven't succeeded in making myself sick as a dog! :facepalm3: ;)

Yahh!!

Word on the street I'm getting is after Easter weekend for the Highlands for closing.

Highlands and the Mountain are both concerned about the rain and temps the coming weeks, and the low base.

If I hear anymore I'll shout it.

On another note, a special shout out to Kyle Mack, winner of the US Open slopestyle for DC boards.
I have known Kyle, a local prodigy from Waterford. His family is very proud after the years of support.

Karly Shore will be at Boyne for a celebrity Ride With Carly weekend the , for the Bettys out there. Weekend of the 26th if the mountain is still open.

Are you guys back from your trip? How was it?

I got back from Mont Tremblant not long ago and it was excellent! They were recently dumped on with snow. First time being at such a large place..the gondola just kept going and going!

Looks like that was the end of it for me for the season. This week's temperatures are way above average, including rain. Can't see any snow sticking around past the weekend.

Full writeup on how I learned (kind of) to ride the 22' superpipe at Seven Springs:

Pennsyltucky Part 2: Seven Springs Superpipe | agnarchy.com

As for Michigan... uuggggh. Part of me is glad PK reneged on today. I would've ridden, despite the fact that I'm barely mobile right now hahaha, so while I wnated to go out and ride, I know conditions would've sucked hard, and I need the rest as it is.

I'm clear for the full weekend of 3/19 & 3/20 -- IF Cannonsburg is open, I will probably be there on Saturday and then Sunday at Caberfae. If Cannonsburg is not open, then probably going up to Boyne on Saturday.

Superpipes

I used to ride the 20' pipe Boyne used to cut when they still had the Zog. That thing scared the s**t out of me too. Just edging it when it was icy without falling was enough. Got vert a few times in late march when it was mush. IIRC I think they pulled the plug when some gaper fell in there, got hurt and sued.
Party over.

Im seriously considering taking a sick day Fri and heading north to Highlands. Looking at the long range forecast,.. I'm not very optimistic about them remaining open for the following weekend. They're forecasting rain up there for the 19-20th.

Sab, Dave, Trapp, bkssd,..? Waddaya say guys? Any of you down for a MI regional slush meet? :dunno: Lmk if u r!! I'll need to make my excuses @ work by tomorrow! ;)

(...such a sucky season! We could usually count on being able to ride into mid to late April! Doubt we'll see anything in the LP open by the end of Mar!)
:( :crying:

I don't put too much stock in the daily, 10 days out,but I'll keep an eye on it obviously my plans could be subject to change but I hope I don't have to nix em.

Would have to be that weekend for me, I'm busy this wknd and following is Easter and we moved my girl's bday party up a week or so because Jr. is due via c-section on 4/4.

You got spoiled the past few seasons with the late riding.

Mid-April is really only a Boyne thing, though Crystal occasionally dabbles in early April.

This season's "end" is fairly typical. But the beginning and middle, or utter lack thereof, are what made it such an exceptional bummer...
