I work for one of the "Express" delivery servie Co 's. All local, and only part time! Not gonna say which one as they got some draconian rules about "Public Perception" and employee responsability for ithat!

thats a tough to guess but all about the same thing depending on if your doing ground,express, or freight. but that's cool you can do locals and still get to come home at night. I Own a Local Cartage company, as well as regional Freight Forwarding company in DTW

Yeah, wasn't that hard a hint was it. Wasn't trying to be evasive, but Nowaday's people get fired for posting shit on the interweb. Who knows, one day I might want to post a vid of myself "Nailing" a fifty footer wearing nothing but leather chaps & my "Junk" flapping' in the wind!! Don't want to get fired when I do!

BTW, anyone here can send donations to make sure that Vid never EVER get's posted!!!!!

So,.. All joking aside, I wanted to Thank you Guy's for the info on other "semi local" SB destinations. I've done a quick look at a few of them, still need to do some more in depth research on them.

Of course, the longer it takes me to "pull the trigger" and make my reservations, the more it will wind up costing! Flights, Lodging etc.!

(...if before the end of the year, I can get a couple more mid to large(ish) orders for a little Macro Photography accessory I've designed and have been selling. I might just be able to divert a little of the profit to finally get enough saved for Big Sky! Here's Hoping!!)

Chomps a lot of those places I mentioned wouldn't be worthwhile to fly to because they're in hard-to-reach cities without a major airport/hub nearby. Especially NY and PA you can get to those places in 6-8 hours might as well drive, it will take you longer than that to drive to the airport, negotiate the security line, board your plane, deboard and pick up your luggage and then rent a car and drive another 2-3 hours to the mountain. Most places even within 11 hours I've done the math and I figure it takes 7 hours to fly there and then you still have to rent a car and drive an hour or two or three more, so you might as well just drive your own self there

On a related note, I wish there was a bridge or a teleporation machine that would whisk you over Lake Michigan, that bitch keeps us so isolated from MN/WI. I'd love to check out some of their hills but at 7-12 hours drive down around Chicago and back up, it's not really worth it. Can you imagine a 4hr drive to Green Bay instead of 8 hours???

Oh, No. That stuff about flights was concerning Big Sky, or anywhere else I might consider out west. Right now the flights are $450-$500. for flights 2 months away. Book 'em within a month or 2 weeks and NOW,.. they're $900-$1200!!! for the same shitty 3 layover-12hour trip!!!

Never understood that?? If They haven't sold the seat 3 days before the flight, You'd think they'd give you a "Discount" to get it sold!! NOT Jack the price HIGHER!! Oh Well! Also, a lot of the "Stay & Ski" lodging package deals require booking well in advance! Not as many, or as good deals once the trip date gets close!


Yeah,.. Even a Ferry might cut 3-4-5 hours off that drive,.. But I'd have to be absolutely sure of the weather before heading out into Lake MI. for a Long ferry ride!!

SS Badger ferry from Ludington to Manitowoc, WI takes 3 hours. Takes 4 hours to get from Detroit to Manitowoc.

Then from there it takes another 2 hours to get from Manitowoc to Granite Peak (700' vertical) in Wisconsin.

You could actually do a reaaaaaally bad ass trip if you had enough time. Go up and hit Boyne / Nubs / Shanty Creek for a few days. Then take the ferry across and hit up some place in WI/MN and head back up through the U.P. and then finally back down to Detroit.

Or Boyne / Nubs area, up through the U.P. to hit BoHo / Brule / Porkies, down through MN / WI and take the ferry back?


EDIT: Looking at the schedule, I don't think the ferry runs in the winter. October 14th looks like the end of the season.

DOUBLE EDIT: The ferry takes longer than 3 hours anyway (4 actually, time zones messed me up) so it isn't really any faster than driving around.
