Alright everyone since Summer is over, fall has just begun and we've already had our first rail jam of the year, it's time to start a new thread for the 10/11 winter.

Last year we had the "Southeast" michigan thread, but I think we should do all of Michigan. Sure, most of population lives in S/E michigan but we all ride the same resorts in the LP and even the UP if we get a chance, so we should have one thread to bring everyone together.

Cheers everyone we're probably only like 70 days from open resorts!

haha, thanks. You guys actually do ride the way I'd like to once I'm better.

You *almost* had me sold on a wide version of the Proto (CT X?) but I keep coming back to the '12 Legacy for some reason.

I don't know the trick terms yet, like "frontside 180's off hips", I have no idea what that means. Is that going regular to switch mid run or something?

Hips are found between transitions into other runs. You know, you go down one run and it has a section that connects to another? They're just little ridges essentially that you can pop off of. Those are great to start practicing your 180's before you take it to a kicker. I'm still too chicken to try it on a kicker. Heck, I'm basically back to square one when it comes to kickers. I got a mild concussion hitting a jump a few seasons back and I finally got back some courage to try them again.

A 180 is a half rotation spin. Backside means that is the direction of your rotation. So if you're a regular footed rider, a backside spin is a clockwise rotation. When you do a 180, you'll land switch. If you do a 180 while already in switch stance, you'll land it in regular stance... or fall on your ass lol.

Yea, kickers are the takeoff ramps that you see on jumps. Booters are the huge jumps that you see the pros hitting.

Cliff drops are pretty self explanatory lol.

Gaps are similar to cliff drops in that you start from a higher level and jump down to a lower one. The difference being that there is something to clear like a grass gap. Sometimes you see the more daring riders clearing a road gap in those videos. Then you have the famous gaper gap which is the gap found between a skier's/rider's hat/helmet and goggles. If a gap like grass becomes covered with snow, you just call it a drop.

I've not seen any gaps or cliff drops in person yet. But the only part of those kinds of runs that I've seen anyway has been from the chair lifts so I'm sure I miss most of the features. hah.

I dunno what happened recently but all I can think about is getting on my board and trying shiz. I was fine all summer until I started thinking about a new board and boom. Hooked again.

My goal this year; Switch riding, ground tricks like nose and tail lifts into 180's, maybe a box here and there and small kickers.

oh! The number 1 goal: heel side stops. haha, yeah. I can spray toeside and feel comfy on blue runs but I can't spray (or stop really) on my heel side. So retarded.

My first stop this winter will be with an instructor to fix this.

Yea, cliff drop are non-existent around here. There's a place in the UP that supposedly has a ton of them. But I hear that whole mountain is ungroomed.

You can find some good gaps early or late season at places like Crystal Mountain.

The snowboarding itch does bite you suddenly doesn't it? After my first day on a board, I swore off snowboarding. Then I saw the winter olympics and bam! Got myself back on a board and never looked back. All I can think of is snowboarding now.

Looks like we have more Michigan riders in this forum. Workman and Johnnymac. They need to start posting in here. It would be sweet if all of us could get a trip together at Crystal next season. That place is so much fun when you have a group. More eyes for spotting things to do and motivation!

By the way, you guys need to like this page!

Don Thomas Sport Haus

It's Don Thomas in Birmingham and they post shop only deals there all the time. Spread the word!

Hey guys hows it going,
I'm pretty new to these forums so I'll introduce myself a bit, I'm 22, born n raised in Big Rapids (small town most of you probably arent familiar with it) I now am going to school and working in Muskegon. I've been riding since about 8th grade all around the state
(mainly go to Crystal mtn, Shanty Creek, and Caberfae). I've been all freeride my whole life, this year I plan on starting freestyle and starting it hard, I just got my 1st NS board (2012 evo) and I'm ready to use it! lol :D

Man, companies want to know how to reach out to customers and when I toss out an idea they just stomp on it.

Modern Skate & Surf in Lansing in particular.

I've been in contact with a local theater (Celebration Cinema) about showing Art of Flight and they've been open with communication and are looking into it...

So I mention it on MSS's facebook in response to their post asking which snowboard vids we wanna see. I suggest maybe they team up with Celebration to host a viewing or something and MSS replies with "why would a theater want to do that?"

*sigh*

I was embarrassed by that response because sadly I linked MSS to my email with Celebration, so now they will see that.

Am I missing something here? Is Art of Flight theater worthy? The cinematography looks amazing. They have theater openings listed on the website..

Take it with a grain of salt. Social media managers are usually low on the food chain. Trust me, I know lol. I would try to contact someone higher up.

We've collabed with theaters before to show ski/snowboard movies. The only reason I can think of that MSS would say that on FB is because the dude is talking out of his ass.

Yeah, he/she back tracked a little when my response was along the lines of 'duh'

"Because it's Lansing, MI. Snowboarding isn't a HUGE deal here like it is in California, Colorado, Utah, Oregon... But if it works, that'd be sweet. Let us know if we can do anything to help. Maybe we could get Red Bull and MSU Snowboard Club to help put on an event. But doing it at NCG (in East Lansing) would make more sense if you wanted to do that."

They hit a pet peeve of mine by dogging Lansing but I dropped it because they had a point in that there's no hill here. They're on your side of the state and up north but dogs man, we have two shops here selling boards, clearly someone is buying them.

Regardless, I've got the program coordinator to contact with the AoF film team to see if they can bring it to Lansing in October/November. She seemed genuinely interested. Could have been just good P.R. and nothing serious. We'll see, I guess.

Maybe I'll contact Summit. lol

I heard the same thing a few weeks ago, that they ordered stock in March. Who knows what the deal is? I get it, it's summer and they dont want to waste floor space on inventory that wont move for another 2+ months...but all the while I see that selection online is dwindling. Some places dont have both colors, other places dont have anymore 163's available.

I think in two more weeks I will have enough to finally order online somewhere.
