So I gotta ask. I see your location, I'm in Lansing city. Where are you? I dunno about you but I'm in an interesting spot. Sure we don't have Holly or the other SE resorts 15 mins from our house but on the bright side, I have 5 hills within 70 minutes and we get to the northern resorts a hell of a lot faster than they do in the Detroit area.

I'm totally with you on the benefits of our location over SE Michigan. For us being a bit over on the west, the Detroit hills are a bit more of a hike for me than you, but I could probably make it to Mt Holly in an hour 20 mins. But I can get to Bittersweet in a little less than that and Caberfae in about 2 hours. Plus, my wife and I are originally from the Manistee area and we have a lot of family (read babysitters, lol) up there which is why we usually hit Caberfae and Crystal, each of which are only about 40-minute drives from where we stay up there. So for weekend riding, I'm set pretty nice. Being down in Detroit might be nice to hit those places for night skiing on weekdays, but I don't have the fucking time for that anyways right now. |

I split custody of my girl with the ex, we each have her 50/50 so I always have Thursday nights free if I want to ride the SE hills after work. Hawk Island here in the city was good for Wednesdays (ex picks up my girl at 6) and I was just getting into a good groove with a lot of riding when I had my accident. I may have hit 40 days this season. With you being in Portland, Cannonsburg is the better park choice over Hawk Island if you're into that. Especially if you're snagging a ski free deal with a bud. My first two seasons riding I basically only went to Cab with the rare trip to other places. It was perfect being so close (2 hours like you) and still being a decent size hill.

I'll tell you what, for a small ski area I was really impressed with Bittersweet over in Otsego. If it wasn't for the family thing and us being up there anyways because of that, I might even wind up going there more over Caberfae. The wife and I had a lot of fun there last weekend and the runs were surprisingly long considering the size of the hill.
When you get back in action we should do a meetup at Hawk Island or something. I don't do park at all yet, but I eventually want to do some small stuff like jumps and funboxes. Might be the place to learn that. |

I've never been to Bittersweet but I'd go there, especially for decently long runs (for lower MI). It's the same distance as the SE places from me.

Cool. I've got a buddy who also lives and works in Lansing and I just got him into snowboarding last year. He is every bit as obsessed as I am now. If the wives don't want to go along we will sometimes just take day trips on the weekends and split gas.
Provided you are not an ax murderer, you'd be welcome to come along. |

![]() Can't wait to get back out there again. I'm toying around with the idea of squeezing something in this season in March. No idea why I'm entertaining that though, I couldn't even go to work today and am high on Vicodin..
