Something to be pretty stoked on if you haven't heard already:

Echelon Snowboards Moves Production to Michigan, USA

Sounds like they'll be pressed by Shaggy's in Boyne, with all production overseen by Eric Luthardt, formerly of FLOW snowboards. Widely regarded as one of the best in the biz.

Not to be negative, but why should I get excited over this? For easier access to demos possibly?

Sure.

I think really it is a bit more than that. Even if you're not a snowboarder, there's something cool about the fact that a company is moving their manufacturing from China, to the US.

That it happens to be in our backyard makes it relevant to us (I mean, I imagine this would be less "cool" to someone who lives in Talahasee, FL).

Easier access to demos is one thing but maybe the tip of the iceberg. You can see what Marhar's presence has done in this state and on the west side where, maybe it's an overstatement but they kinda dominate. They're quite popular. They're local. They have demos at all the hills. Every time I ride I see kids on Mustache Rides or Mysticks or whatever. They're sponsoring local riders, and all this creates a feedback loop that is good for the shops, the resorts, the riding community in general, etc. There's certainly room in this state for more than one company like this. If Echelon can establish a good presence here, I think it can only do positive things for the scene in Michigan.

No, both Marhar and Echelon are trying to do negative things to my wallet. It seems like Echelon doesn't make many boards above the 150's in length from what I recall though.

Yeah I think 157/158 was as big as they made this year let me check the top secret info I have and see if they're adding new sizes. They are completely redoing the entire lineup so they might be.

Adding some wide sizes up to 58w on a few freestyle boards and 62W on two all mountain boards.

I'll be heading out to MT Holly in the am tomorrow. It's been a rough week weather wise. Anybody gonna be out there?

Send a note to Marhar about this and maybe they'll overnight you a board to try out at Boyne. On your way home you can return it to them in Grand Rapids.
