well Sugar didn't have anything like the 15" they were reporting the other day. While I suspect that the Wednesday-into-Thursday storm dropped something like 8-10" (as forecasted), by Friday it was groomed, tracked, and packed leaving scant evidence that it had once been freshy-fresh.
Fortunately, the sun was out and it was 35 degrees, so we got to ride a beautiful spring day with tons of new snow, even if it was groomed over.
Last night, a storm came in out of nowhere, started dumping around midnight. We opted to go to Beech Mountain and there we found some fresh. It was in the "Midwest Pow Day" category, of maybe 4-6", or just enough to be legitimately powder instead of mere "dust on crust". It snowed pretty consistently all day and was still coming down when we left at 1:30.
Overall got really lucky with the conditions (today, in particular) but even moreso that we even made it in to Charlotte as scheduled. so many flights were postponed/delayed; and several airlines had cancelled ALL flights in to CLT on Thursday. Delta cancelled the 7am and 10am flights, but our 230pm was on time and landed early, one of the first flights in to CLT after having been completely shut down for almost 24 hours.
I will have to do a full report about the trip and the experience of riding in the Southeast, because it was "different" in some expected and some unexpected ways. Overall a fun trip though!
