Where at?

Unrelated... but I saw an advertisement on this website (when I wasn't logged in, if you login you don't see the ads) for a Tahoe trip to Heavenly in which it was 4 night, 3 days riding for like $300 per person.

Seemed like a pretty decent deal I would think, since I believe it included lodging. I know the lift tickets in CO are at least $90 a day and I'd assume the prices are similar in Tahoe... so you're getting a room for decently cheap (as long as it isn't a dump).

I guess the only problem is that I went to Heavenly a few years back and hated it. Half the mountain is Cali and half is Nevada... and if you went the wrong way you had to do a shit load of walking or even take a bus to get back to the other side.

We also went to Kirkwood and Alpine Meadows when in Tahoe... Alpine Meadows was awesome. No one was there and the back mountain we were riding had about 2-3' of powder and we were all by ourselves.

None of this has anything to do with Michigan though, haha.

Dude I did a Tahoe trip a few years ago and hit the exact same mountains: Alpine, Kirkwood, and Heavenly.

Unfortunately, conditions were shit when we went there, temps close to zero degrees & windy, and they hadn't seen a good snowfall it was all pretty tracked out and hardpack.

You used to be able to fly in to RNO for pretty cheap, but those prices have gone up the last year or two that I've looked.

Well I've boarded the last week of November at Mt. Holly one year, so should I be scraping off that storage wax and putting my bindings on this weekend

haha two seasons ago I was riding Alpine Valley on November 17. That is the earliest I ever remember hitting the slopes in 20 years of skiing & snowboarding.

I'm no longer holding out for Thanksgiving weekend. I'll be thrilled if I can get one day on the local hills maybe the first week in December before I go to CO.

You are going to Breck right? They just go 20" of pow yesterday, and at least 36" in the last 72 hours. My buddy posted that on his facebook (the one who lives in Denver).

When exactly are you going and did you get a good deal?

I'm trying to find a website that would have early season packages at a good deal... something that might be room+lift ticket combined for a decent price... probably in mid-December.

I know the snow won't be all there yet... but I have 3 vacation days left at work for 2010 and instead of stacking them all up around x-mas, I'd rather get a quick trip in early season to go along with my trip which should be around mid-February.

So any advice on how to get some cheap deals? Southwest flights are only $110 each way up until about December 18th... after that they start rising in price.

I'm in the same boat only I got about 10 vacation days left so trying to burn a few on a vacation instead of just laying around the house for two weeks at Xmas time

I looked for lift/lodging combos but didn't have much luck.

We're also flying southwest, it's really the only way to go. Cheap flights and your board flies free, no baggage fees. And they do non-stop flights to DEN. I had some credits from a vacation we canceled earlier in the year so we just used those to pay for our airfare. Giggity.

Just like airfares, lodging prices go skyward after Dec. 18. so to get a really good price you'll have to go earlier. There were 1BR places for like $90/night in Frisco a few miles away, but if you've got a few friends to go with you you can probably find a place in Breck near one of the gondolas for under $150/night.

Last year in Park City we used VRBO.com to find a house/condo to rent and it worked out pretty well, so I went that route again this time and found a 2BR condo for $125/night. There is a cleaning fee on top of that, but for 4 of us for three nights, we are paying $130/person for the condo, or about $35/person/night.

If I was going with all bros, we'd save a bunch of money by piling 4 of us in to a Holiday Inn hotel room or something like that and save some scratch, but gotta class it up a little bit when wives/girlfriends are tagging along.

So we got airfare & lodging for about $350/person. I'll end up buying 2 lift tickets, the wife probably only one. Then food, beers, etc. A nice little extended weekend out west in the mountains probably run about $1300 between the two of us, but that takes care of our christmas presents to each other, and it's also the only vacation we've taken together this year so I think it's a pretty good deal.

If you end up out there at the same time (we'll be on the slopes 12/12 and 12/13, flying home 12/14) get in touch!

Yea when I went with my buddies last year we hit Breck-Beaver Creak-Vail-Keystone and stayed at a condo in Silverthorne.

Found the condo on VRBO and about the same as you - ended up being like $125 per person for 5 night (4 days) so not too shabby at all.

I was just thinking that since it is so early in the season... maybe some of these resorts would be having some room+lift ticket combo deals. I'd definitely want to do everything on a budget this time of the year, since the snow is not nearly as great as it is in Feb, etc.

But... after talking to my girl last night she kinda made a good point in that we probably won't even get to ride here in Michigan before we would potentially go out west, and she doesn't know if she could ride 3 straight days without getting tired/sore. Me on the other hand... I know I could do it eventhough I'm out of shape because once I get out there I just keep trucking without thinking about it.

So with that said, we may try just a little weekend trip somewhere closer such as Holiday Valley in NY. About a 6 hour drive I believe, and has 1000' of vertical. Nothing outrageous... but much cheaper than flying out west and it will give us time to get our legs/bodies in shape. That is... if they'll even have snow by then.

yeah that's an option but like you said, there isn't going to be a lot of snow likely in NY/PA/WV or anywhere we can get to in less than a day's drive. So you'll save a few $$$ but the conditions are going to be early-season no matter where you go. At least CO is getting hammered with snow this week and looks like it might continue for a bit, too.

The ladies we're going with I think only plan on riding one day, they'll probably go to the outlet mall in Frisco and dick around shopping in Breck or go to a spa for the mani/pedi/massage treatment or something.

I'll be riding both days
