Jay;

nah, not this season.

If I take any trips to board this season, it will be to Banff where my girl is from.

East coast is a PITA. Flights are relatively expensive and still put you 3+ hours from the resorts, and to drive to these places out east is upwards of 12 hours usually. You are better off saving some cash and heading out west.

All that aside, I do like the east coast esp. quebec. It just sucks because it's so far away and hard to get to. Since I usually only get one big vacation per year, I don't squander it on the ice coast we get enough shit conditions in Michigan

OK. /rant for real now.

I am going to try to organize some MI meetups especially around the metro-D area but also maybe a field trip to Cannonsburg and maybe up to Crystal Mountain for a weekend, too.

I'll def be down for one of those Michigan meetups if it's one of my weekends off. Might have to just say hi or something rather than ride with you guys since I'm still a beginner. (I think?)

Well, I decided to bite the bullet and get me a new board for this season.

Turns out people were right, that I would be itching to upgrade after my first season. I don't even know how it happened.

Like I said earlier, I don't have an extra $500 laying around so I got a little creative with my taxes and am giving myself an early partial refund to pay for a NS Legacy in a few weeks. After a ton of reading and researching, this sounds like the board for me.

I'm torn on the size though. I'm currently riding a 163 Lamar but the 2012 Legacy comes in 161 or 166 (according to the buy it now portion of their website). If I can't get Modern Skate to order a 163 I'm not sure which size to go with. 6'2"ish and packin' 240-250lbs currently but go as low as 220 at times too.

I guess I'm leaning towards going a little small to get the board off the snow easier...is that a mistake?

66 is probably more board than you need in Michigan, but if you're pushing 250 you could probably handle it. I am riding mostly in the 161 range and go about 210-215 pounds.

For beginners, general recommendation is to go with a slightly shorter board than your weight/height would otherwise dictate.

Modern probably placed their order back in April for this season's boards so you would have to call them and find out if they have any 163s on order and they will probably let you place a deposit and reserve one of them. I would probably go with the 163 if MSS doesn't have any on order, Daddies Boardshop has them: Never Summer Legacy Snowboard 2012 they are legit that is where I got my NS a few years back.

I was in MSS last weekend and I guess the buyers that ordered this season's gear are gone and the new manager didn't know much at all about what was coming in or when. Thanks for that link, I'm glad they made a 163 since that's what I really wanted.

I'm going to keep the Lamar in case I even end up at one of your parking lot sessions

oh well you can wait for MSS the 163 will not sell out all that quickly so you will have no problem scooping one up if MSS doesn't have any.

You can definitely ride with us. Well, me at least lol. Even though the runs here aren't challenging, I still do the bulk of my riding on blue runs here. I mess around on the sides and stuff. Dave likes to hit the park and I'll probably be doing more of that next season as well, but I'd be glad to take runs with you.

I can have fun on almost any run as long as it isn't super crowded or icey

Yes, I even have fun on green runs. There's always something for me to work on ie switch riding on bunny hill.

Oh, I definitely need to work on frontside 180's off hips. I'm stuck on backsides and I don't want to become too comfortable with that one direction :/

haha, thanks. You guys actually do ride the way I'd like to once I'm better.

You *almost* had me sold on a wide version of the Proto (CT X?) but I keep coming back to the '12 Legacy for some reason.

I don't know the trick terms yet, like "frontside 180's off hips", I have no idea what that means. Is that going regular to switch mid run or something?
