Alright everyone since Summer is over, fall has just begun and we've already had our first rail jam of the year, it's time to start a new thread for the 10/11 winter.

Last year we had the "Southeast" michigan thread, but I think we should do all of Michigan. Sure, most of population lives in S/E michigan but we all ride the same resorts in the LP and even the UP if we get a chance, so we should have one thread to bring everyone together.

Cheers everyone we're probably only like 70 days from open resorts!

There were two guys there maybe early 20's tops, you saw them in the video. They weren't that good but at least were out there trying. And there were a handful of grommets on plastic snowboards this one kid was on the shittiest snowboard I've ever seen but he was trying EVERYTHING. Like trying to 360 off the box and stuff. If you put him on a real board he'd be killing it in no time!

So yeah... Jon & I were easily the best riders there, but that's not exactly saying much :D

We got a boom stick for the GoPro and just mount it on there so we can get creative camera angles. Works well in a setup like this or a backyard but they're a pain in the ass to carry around a ski resort.

boo-urns I can't ride Wednesday.

You'll be stoked on AV if you want to do boxes/rails. Their jumps are skeery; very steep the only one I hit is closest to the lodge in the beginner park next to the triple chair. It's pretty mellow but everything else is steep as hell.

But they've got a ton of rail/box features from including a few 20 or 30 foot flat boxes that are awesome to boardslide. They've got some kinked boxes and small rails as well as a huge 30 foot flat pipe rail that's about 4" OD, and they recently put in a stair set with a down rail. I haven't hit those big boy features yet...

Just a heads up the Shell coupon is only good on Monday/Tuesday at Alpine so you'll be paying full fare.

park is all open at night. I prefer day riding too but work schedule doesn't allow it and lift tickets are 2 for 1 with the Shell vouchers so it's hard to pass up. Snow is usually decent as long as there's been some recent snowfall. Approaches to features tend to get rutted out and sometimes the landings get bombed out.

Landed fakie off this box today, caught an edge in the bomb-hole landing and slammed down pretty hard landed with my arm between the ground and my chest, pretty sure I cracked a rib on that one it hurts if I press on it.

welcome to the club :D except my cell phone was what fractured mine. if you have a hard time taking deep breaths, its more than likely that you fractured a rib. if you full out cracked one it would hurt like a bitch. a fracture is bearable but hurts like a bitch when you bend, twist, sneeze, cough or lean on it. yea dude i'm still nursing mine. holly's boxes are really bombed out bad. if you thought pk was bad try goin to holly. they haven't fixed their landings in over a week it seems. i'm going to holly on saturday but i guess they're having sum red bull comp so the t-parks might end up being closed so that'll suck! this wknd...x games, board, x games!

We're going out to Brighton to take advantage of the Shell free snowboard thing tonight.
I've only just started and Brighton is the only place we've been. I know the names of the other ski resorts but which are the best if you aren't into park? All I know is that one friend claims it's Caberfae.

I don't suppose anyone knows which place has the longest green run? My google-fu fails me.

I'm not too familiar with your area, but Caberfae is about 3 hours from me. I haven't been there, but my friends have. And from what they tell me, it's pretty good. However, Boyne is much better and it's about a 4 hour drive. I'd much rather take an hour longer drive to go to Boyne :)

In Macomb county, I know for sure that Pine Knob has the longest run. A quarter mile. All of the hills here are beginner friendly. Holly has a pretty long green run. I actually like doing that run to practice things.

If you're going to drive to Caberfae make sure you take advantage of discount lift tickets from LIftopia.com you have to buy a few weeks in advance but I think there might be some discounts available.

Caberfae is about 2.5 hours from East Lansing, Boyne probably 3 hours or so. Boyne is worth the extra 30 mins although Caberfae has stepped up their snowmaking and expanded their terrain, also added on-site lodging recently, too.

None of the small ski areas are really anything special if you're not in to park riding, but they'll all have a good amount of beginner-friendly runs. I think I mentioned Canonsburg might be closest to you but maybe it's Brighton I haven't actually checked a map :)

From Lansing you can also get to Mt. Holly in about an hour, maybe 1:15. Not bad it's bigger than PK, Brighton, etc. but not much taller or anything.

so day 3 is over, damn! superpipe finals tomorrow night! how about torstein and clark making history, huh! so sick! went to holly today. the redbull butter cup was actually pretty cool. they had four features set up for the comp and opened them to the public after it was over. i hit them for a good hour or so. busy as fuck but it was a good time.
