Alright everyone since Summer is over, fall has just begun and we've already had our first rail jam of the year, it's time to start a new thread for the 10/11 winter.

Last year we had the "Southeast" michigan thread, but I think we should do all of Michigan. Sure, most of population lives in S/E michigan but we all ride the same resorts in the LP and even the UP if we get a chance, so we should have one thread to bring everyone together.

Cheers everyone we're probably only like 70 days from open resorts!

There is no real comparison of a $200 bike to a $1000+ bike. Even to someone who doesn't know/appreciate the nuances, you would immediately notice how much a $1000 bike doesn't weigh in comparison even to a $500 bike. That is not to say you can't get a very nice, long-lasting and serviceable entry-level bike for $400-500, it's just going to weigh a shitton and the quality won't be as nice.

Second what Dave wrote. My bike was $800 and it was NO comparison to the $2500 Trek!
Believe me when I tell you, I felt the same way about $1000 plus bikes. That is until I rode one!

I always figured for that price. They should pedal themselves up hills AND come equiped with a HOT chick mechanic to keep, (me) the bike tuned!!! ;)

Shoot,.. During my demo, I passed people on the climbs and that NEVER happened before.

Not sayi ng my bikes shit, just saying "Compared" to the $2K bike,.. It's like SHIT! :D

If your interested I'll sell you mine for Around $600. This years model, same bike retails for $900. (mines the 2011). PM me if u think you'd want to check it out!!! ;)

Hey Bud, save the "justifications" for the little woman!! :). You don't have to make any excuses to me for ANYTHING you spend on boarding!!!! SERIOUSLY, I am a FULL BLOWN, responsabllity be damned, board ADDICT!!

I'm not joking when I say that I Maxed the CC's on equipment and trips up north. The only diff is I got no significant other ( to use the PC code words ) to give me any grief about it! ;)

Of course I couldn't qualify for a loan for a cupp of coffee right now, but I only screwed myself there.

My forum signature is not just a funny quote unfortunately, (..or fortunately depending!) :D

Anyone know of any shops in or near the UP? I need some new gear for the upcoming season and want to at least get my boots in person so I don't end up with boots that don't fit.

Casualties is one of the best shops I've ever been in as far as customer service goes...prices are a tad high, but the whole crew oozes stoke and friendliness. Unless something's a real hot seller, they change up their inventory about every year though. I'm actually wearing one of their t-shirts right now! :cheeky4:

Otherwise, Switchback Outfitters deals in lightly used consignment stuff, so there are always tons of deals if you don't mind pre-loved gear.

No haven't found the time to get up there yet, trouble is it's like an hour from my house which means I need a block of 5+ hours to really make it worth my while, time at a premium now...

how is the misfit lab ? just looked into it yesterday after reading this thread. always slammed or what ?
Not sure how it's been but they got a rail jam coming up on the 28th

Google didn't show me anything on the MI side, going to check that out again and casualties. Need to get my passport sorted out so I can check out the CA side and go up to Searchmont anyway though.

I'm also eyeballing new boots which I desperately need since mine are blown out and new bindings. I am leaning towards the Burton Genesis, i spent a good amount of time on those at Test Fest and liked them but a part of me feels dirty buying the B LOL.

Unofficial word on the street is Birmingham Rail Jam on Saturday 9/22. The O-Park is no longer around to sponsor it but there will still be a jam going on, just maybe not as big as it has been the past few years.

I don't think I will ever let myself buy Nike boots. :)

The Flow bindings were promising but I think there were some issues that needed to be ironed out. Perhaps just pre-production problems which I guess are pretty common in the demo gear but it seems to be a pretty common refrain from people who've tried the new ones (like the NX2 etc.) that their ease-of-use is nowhere near what the old Flow bindings was, and without the ease-of-use they take just as long (or longer) to get in to compared to traditional bindings.

I could use some new boots, and I'd like a new stick. And if I do those, I'll want new bindings. I guess I'm shopping for all new gear for this season that I can't afford xD I want something with a rocker camber. On the plus side, my EDL should be coming in the mail one of these days, and I'm planning a trip down to Petoskey to see some friends and hit up some shops around there. Been seriously eyeing that Forum Recon on Dogfunk for $179...

BIRMINGHAM RAIL JAM THIS SATURDAY

Fourth year in a row, snow in September, should be a good time even as a spectator event, if you need to convince the wife or GF, this event typically coincides with a big art fair/festival in Birmingham so it's a family friendly event not just a bunch of snowboarders.

PARX will be providing the drops & features since the O-Park is out.

Paralyzed snowboarder loses lawsuit against Boyne

Paralyzed snowboarder loses lawsuit against Boyne | Lansing State Journal | lansingstatejournal.com

BOYNE FALLS — A man paralyzed while snowboarding at Boyne Mountain Ski Resort has failed to persuade the state appeals court to reinstate his lawsuit.

Patrick N. Anderson says a certain jump was not obvious before he was badly injured in Boyne’s terrain park. His expert says the jump should have been constructed in a safer way.

But the appeals court pointed to a state law and ruled in favor of Boyne. The law grants immunity to ski area operators and says skiers and snowboarders know there are dangers when they hit the slopes.

The court says Anderson would have seen the jump if he heeded all signs and warnings.

the jump was IN THE TERRAIN PARK. If he didn't see it, it was his own damn fault. Sorry bro got paralyzed, but... fuckin' gapers.
