Alright everyone since Summer is over, fall has just begun and we've already had our first rail jam of the year, it's time to start a new thread for the 10/11 winter.

Last year we had the "Southeast" michigan thread, but I think we should do all of Michigan. Sure, most of population lives in S/E michigan but we all ride the same resorts in the LP and even the UP if we get a chance, so we should have one thread to bring everyone together.

Cheers everyone we're probably only like 70 days from open resorts!

yeah I actually plan on changing that segment with the three blocks. I put it in there for the draft just to experiment with it.

Lighting... yeah, not much ya can do about that :)

I actually used the chest strap mount, not the helmet mount. There are a few clips that were shot with the wide-angle 1080p setting, but most of the footage was shot using the 960p tall setting. Wish I would've used that setting exclusively, because the footage turned out so much better. I had to scrap a bunch of the wide-angle stuff just because it didn't look interesting enough. Otherwise, the angle was a little bit off, on account of being chest-mounted. I think I can fix that if I use a swivel/extension arm on the mount, but I had left those at the condo that day. All-in-all, turned out OK I think.

Nice, looks like pretty sweet conditions. I have a bunch of video, but I need a new laptop to edit it. My old ass one can't handle HD stuff. I filmed mainly with a helmet mount but used a pole for a couple and using a pole mount is wayyy better, but kind of a pain.

Anyone have plans to hit Caberfae/Crystal before the season is over?

He ain't getting that tip from me lol. Those jumps are bigger than what I hit and I don't spin. I'm older and started the sport late too.

Yes, I remember your son now. I was thinking of a bigger kid that had green pants, turquoise/black stripe jacket.

I believe I saw your son there before they fully built those jumps a couple weeks ago. Those jumps were just big rollers before. Am I correct he was out there? There aren't too many kids with gopros hitting that line.

Probably. We have been out there almost every Wednesday, Friday, Sunday this year.

Every year we play hooky on my birthday. This year it rained, so were blowing off work and school and spending all Wednesday there. A reward for getting excellent grades and he can work on his run.

Well thing is that we're having our kids' birthday parties up there all that weekend. Our daughter's is next week and the boys' is right after that weekend. Since all our family is up there we usually just have the parties there and do it all in one shot. That, I think, would be Saturday. So if I can get there it'd probably be either Saturday night or Sunday morning of that weekend.

Sab, can't recommend Crystal's ski school highly enough. We had our 5 year old do both Caberfae's and Crystal's once each this year and while they were both good, she progressed faster and seemed to have more fun at Crystal. Plus they have that magic carpet which is nice for the really little kids.

Stopped for me, but had to click further on the video, press pause, then play, and it worked. Looks like you has some pretty good conditions overall. I am already planning a trip to Steamboat next year :) The top of my bucket list now is Jackson Hole and Steamboat. I want to bring my wife this time so I think the mellower terrain of Steamboat is the better option....now just need 2014 to get here.

yeah it was chest-mount. GP doesn't rotate like the Contour but this would be fixable if I put another one of those elbow joints on the mount which would allow me to rotate/angle the camera to get a more level video.

I intended to do that on Saturday after reviewing Friday's footage, but I guess it slipped my mind.

Saturday I was on the front side. Took a few laps in the morning then caught the Men's pipe finals then took a few more laps in the afternoon. My legs were pretty dead. Wish I would've headed back over to China/Mongolia, but TBH I am not sure my legs would've held up. My last few runs were shit, just didn't have the muscle left to power through stuff like I normally would.

Yea man, its a whole different world out here. Especially if you got about 16k vertical in on Friday... Not only that, but the altitude and less oxygen weren't helping you recover as quickly either.

We did 19.2k on Saturday, leaving the mountain before 3pm. Wasn't nearly as packed as I thought it was going to be. It was HOT though. I only had my shell + under armor and I was soaked. Sun was just destroying any south facing slopes after about 11am. We did an afternoon Dragon's teeth and it was a night and day difference from the deep, soft powder in the morning to the heavy, corn potato crud in the afternoon. Trees still had good snow though, in the shade.

Glad you had a good time though.

Well... I almost thought I would go an entire season without buying a new board. Then I found Altrec.com's closeout section, which has a pretty decent number of this year's boards (some are blems) at 40-50% off.

Coupon code "GOGGLES20" gets you another 20% off.

I could not resist the Burton Sherlock for the bargain price of $208. Having them ship it out to BurtonAvenger in Breck so hopefully I can ride it this weekend.

Anyways, they got tons of boards from Burton, Rome, Gnu, Ride, etc. even some splitboards if that's your thing.

Sweet! The Sherlock was the one Burton board I demo'd up at Boyne that I really liked!!! It's the same basic flat rocker profile as my Rome GR.
Hope u get a chance to shred it out there!

hey fella's, its been a while . . . dave that vail vid is pretty sick. i will get there one day, hopefully soon enough to still be able to board. just wondering if anyone has been to holiday valley, ny? son has a hockey tourney in st catherines, on. next week, so me and a buddy were thinking of heading up a few days early. then i look at the weather forecast, and they are all over the place. looks like it will be a bit warmer than usual. what giant resorts around here have the best progression park? pk, mh, av? i notice no one rides brighton, is it any better since being purchased by the big fella's???

#3,412 ·
AV has the best progression park, but the worst regular runs. PK has a Great park and decent runs, but the crowds there give off a different vibe. PK parks, on the afternoons and weekends, are super crowded. Be prepared to face a ton of kids sitting at the top, on features, and at the bottom of both parks.

Mt Holly has the best jump line right now. They have jumps for all levels as of now. Their features are a good mix, but the location sucks. It's tucked away in the left most corner so when you are done, you're going to have to skate over to the quad. Holly has the best regular runs in town.

#3,414 ·
Well, weather up north's NOT cooperating,.. :RantExplode: so I'm gonna stick around here for today and see what Mt. Holly is like on a weekday when there are no crowds!

Anyone else gonna get out there today?

#3,422 ·
I might have asked you this before, but why do you go to PK so much rather than Holly?

Holly has the better regular runs. They have a long green run that I actually love to hit to mess around on or practice things. Even their bunny hill with tow rope is longer and better.
I go alone, today will be only the 5th time snowboarding, it is slightly closer. I have no complaints with PK because I don't know what I don't know. Tried alpine one night and it was a sheet of ice. Only stayed for maybe 40 minutes and left, so it has always been PK. Shit I haven't even been on a lift yet, only the toe rope.

BTW, as a reminder Crystal passes for 2013/14 go on sale tomorrow. Early bird pricing lasts until April 7th for those who are interested. The wife and I are going this route this year.

#3,419 ·
Haha, I was mostly honest about it. Told the boss I needed to use some annual leave to take care of some "personal business". Still slightly dishonest, but at least if I break my neck and go to the hospital he won't wonder why I was snowboarding on a sick day! lol

FUCKIN'A!!!!!! Just hit 41 mph out here @ Holly! That was one of my goals this year to crack 40 mph fucking a Skippie!!:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::eusa_clap::wavetowel2::wavetowel2::wavetowel2:
