Alright everyone since Summer is over, fall has just begun and we've already had our first rail jam of the year, it's time to start a new thread for the 10/11 winter.
Last year we had the "Southeast" michigan thread, but I think we should do all of Michigan. Sure, most of population lives in S/E michigan but we all ride the same resorts in the LP and even the UP if we get a chance, so we should have one thread to bring everyone together. Cheers everyone we're probably only like 70 days from open resorts!

What are some good places in Michigan to ride? I live near Grand Rapids, and the closest are Cannonsburg and Pando, which both kind of suck. Any suggestions?

Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands, Nubs Knob, Schuss Mountain, Crystal Mountain... those are your most worth while places in Mi.
The best local hills are Mt. Holly, Pine Knob, and Alpine Valley. All are a good hike for you. |

I hear cannonsburg is OK during the week. Weekends anywhere in this state are going to blow goats, super crowded, long lift lines for short trails.
Otherwise you're going to have to drive a few hours up the US-131. Take 131 to 115 West past Cadillac and Crystal Mountain and Caberfae Peaks are about 30 minutes down the road. Caberfae can get pretty gnarly, they don't do a lot of grooming there and it's pretty low-rent. Crystal is really family friendly and has a full service resort & spa, etc., on-site lodging, dining, it's really a nice place. More over in the Petoskey/Harbor Springs area (you have to take 131 to 66) there is Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands, and Nub's Nob. All pretty respectable by Michigan standards. A short jog off 66 (if memory serves me) past Mancelona is Schuss Mountain & Shanty Creek. Another good option, they're the same resort so your lift ticket at one is valid at the other and there is a shuttle that runs between them all.
