Newb lookin' To Split some gas!

Posted this in the "general chat" forum, they pointed me here. (Not sure how I missed this in the first place!)

I'll re-post my two original threads.

1st one:

1st post here and I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion on how I can find a passenger willing to split the cost of gas traveling from the Detoit area up north to places like Nub's or Boyne Mnt.

I stepped on a snowboard for the first time in Feb of 2011, (...never could ski! ) and now that I'm totally hooked and obsessed, I can't seem to find anyone who, like me, is looking to head out as often as they can to find snow.

It runs me between $120 & $150 just for gas to make the round trip in my 4x4 f150. Add to that, 4-5 hours driving,.. 6-9 hours on the board,.. then facing a 5 hour drive back? It's too much for a 51 year old fart like myself!! If I'm going to wind up WRAPPED AROUND A TREE, I'd like it to happen on the board! So naturally, I end up staying overnight. (...another $80-180 dollars! and of course, since I'm still there the next morning, I can't help but spend that day on the slopes as well!!!! Right?) I'm goin' broke this way!

I need someone,.. who can spring for half the gas on a few Day trips up 'n back. Maybe help with the driving or at least keep me company and alert on the drive home! (BTW, I gave up on better living thru chemistry 30 years ago!) Any suggestions? I've already asked around the local REI and Boyne Mnt Sports. They didn't have any ideas and weren't willing to post a flyer!

Thanx in advance!

My reply;
Cool!! With that in mind, I'll make it a bit easier for someone to decide if they want to risk a day in my company.

I'm a 51 year old white male. I ride my Mountain Bike, do a little mellow river running in my Kayak! (no extreme whitewater stuff) Used to do some bouldering and top rope climbing when I lived in Southern CA. 20 years ago! Still like the rock but won't pay to climb.

Don't drink anymore, same with drugs. (I don't have any problem with drinkers, I just don't get in a car with them after they have, not when I'm sober and can make sure everyone gets home safe!) I listen to lots of different kinds of Rock & Roll. From classic to alternative. Like a lot of country too, from Old time Bluegrass & S#%$# Kickin' stuff to modern country! I really don't care for Rap! Same with Jazz & HATE Opera! (..not that I think I'll run into too many Pavarottii fans here! ) I smoke Cigarrettes! (Tobacco & Pizza are my two last vices) But I can try to keep that to a minimum in the vehicle! (no promises)

I drive for a living,.. 25 years, No accidents on the job and No accidents ever that were my fault! (two total- one L turn in front of me on my motorcycle in Laguna CA. and one getting rear ended at a stop sign by 16 year girl old on a cell phone) I take driving safe seriously. So to a few folks here, I probably seem like a bit of Fuddy Duddy! But, 30 some years ago I was a hell raisin' dope smokin' So Cal Boozer. so I'm not a complete Dweeb!

most important,... I LOVE SNOWBOARDING!!!!
I Quit even tryin' to ski 30 yrs ago cuz I sucked sooo bad at it. But I "Get" snowboarding. Started in Feb, got fewer than 4 weeks total ride time on the board and This past weekend I took a shot @ one of the black diamond runs at "Highlands"! Fell a lot, but managed to keep from winding up in traction! I was nervous my first time out this year about losing what little I'd learned last season, but to my surprise, I've actually improved some!!!! I'm still learning and need a bit more confidence before goin' flat out on the board,.. but I've only ever ridden on "late/early season" Icy, hard, crappy man made or frozen stuff! I can only imagine how much better I could get when I have a chance to ride a foot or two of real, fresh snow!!!

So,.. to that end, Don't care if your a Guy or a Girl,.. 20 Years old or 60,.. If we can stand to be in the same vehicle together for two -4 hour rides in a day and can talk about boarding, or anything else for that matter,.. Lets find out if we can get more rides, in better snow, for less money in 2012!!!
