I planned a trip to Wausau for March 23-25 so I could get a couple more days of riding in before my season is totally over. Is it going to be just horrible conditions by then at Granite Peak? It seems like it would be nothing but slush (after witnessing Chestnut's closing weekend) but I've never been to Granite Peak before. Should I cancel the trip or just wait and see?
If you want to have a good experience for your first time at GP, I would stay home. I'd hate for you to have a bad impression of the hill. Just been a extremely bad season weather wise.
I heard the news also and it was a little disheartening because there is a competition there this saturday and hopefully the park won't be destroyed to bad. Also Derp do you think Granite Peak will be shut down before April?
As of now they still plan on being open this weekend.
I know Central Board shop has their event going on.
I boarded most of the day & night this past Saturday/Sunday and conditions were pretty slow and rough. Too warm to even refreeze when the sun goes down. Corn. My base was almost solid brown each day I finished.
Same here buddy. I put a thick coat of wax on the CC last night, took the bindings off, zip-lock'd everything up, bagged the board, and hung everything up in storage for the season.
Wish I could have gotten more out of the season, but mother nature can be a real bitch. Already looking forward to next season though.
Spring Skiing at Granite Peak
We will be open this Saturday and Sunday, March 17th and 18th along with the following weekend March 24th and 25th! We will have all runs open this weekend! (with the exception of the tree skiing glades) We will be closed Monday through Friday of next week and reopen for the weekend. We are watching the weather closely, with hopes that the temperatures go down to remain open through April 8th!
This Saturday, March 17th we will be hosting an Air and Style Contest on Sugar Maple. Registration begins at 10:30 in the Historic Chalet. The contest will begin at 12:00 noon with a $5.00 entry fee per person.
We will also be hosting a Brew Fest this weekend. Enjoy locally brewed beer right here in Wausau! We will have a couple of our local breweries offering handcrafted beer tasting from 12:00 to 3:00 pm. Also enjoy great music by Brad Emanuel from 2pm – 10pm! Take advantage of late season pricing while enjoying some great Spring Skiing!
