Yea, I had the 5gen ipod pluged into my 12v outlet in my jeep and had a power surge come thru my outlet do to unpluging something else that was pluged into it.. after it messed up i could not hear anything but distortion thru the headphone jack. I had some lady from craigs list fix it and not i can hear music but its still distorted. Have you fixed anything like this before? I use it now with my dock station stero and it works fine just the headphone jack is still slighty distorted.. Maybe I could send it to you and you could check it out.
well it literally costs about $15 off ebay for the headphone jack (or $30 from an online retailer new in box), and it takes about 30 minutes to replace it... it could be several things though IF and thats a big IF that chick replaced it before and didnt just fool around with it and give it back. Most likely it is just the headphone jack and she may have replaced it with another defective jack. It could also be the logic board but lets hope not.. then its almost $70!
If you ebay a headphone jack and its worth the $15 to you then I will throw it in for ya one afternoon and see if we cant get you back going again. If its worth $30 to you (keeping in mind that it is about a 10% chance it is the logic board) then get a new one from ifixit or something. They arent terrible to do and with any mechanical knowledge could be done if you had the ipod separating tools at hand. Either way if youd like me to check it out I will.. you can PM me if you want to go that route.
I'm not stressing about $$ or anything so no worries there, i'd be willing to help out another forum member and get them back on the slopes with some tunes. Basically, i like fixing shit..LOL I thought I would have grown out of it by now but being 30 and still fixing little shit all the time i guess its just in my nature.
