Yea its common to have equipment shut down in cold weather, digital cameras do it as well but in nearly all cases you can remedy that by replacing the Ni-mH batteries with Lithium ones, obviously not an option with an ipod.
Where are you keeping it on yourself? if its in a breast pocket you shouldnt have any issues with it getting too cold. |

I personally like my ipod shuffle for the slopes. I use my ipod touch for off the slopes, but the shuffle is a good way to go, because it holds enough music so that you have an ok variety, but also because its easy to put in your pocket, and you dont have to worry about screens cracking or choosing new songs. All i do is load it up with my favorites, hit play, and tuck it in my pocket. Plus, even if i lose it, it's not losing my 300$ touch!

I rock an older ipod nano. I've broken/lost so many now that I just go on ebay and get an older model for a great price.
Got the one I have now just before Christmas, lost it in WV sometime between Christmas and NYE and it was later found in the Suburban I was riding in for the trip. |

my 30g ipod vid dies on the slopes all the time too. and i do believe it is due to the cold. i tested it one time, fully charged, stuck it in my car and left it over night. and in the morning it said no battery power remains. i warmed it up inside and the battery was back to full. and just today, i went to listen to it at work, all my music is gone. dont kno what the eff happened.?

Yeah It is in my breast pocket, I think just a little bit of cold wind shuts it down... Its extremely annoying though. It happened a good 6 times yesterday when good songs were on. It's weird though, I mean I take it out and it's still warm. This ipod bothers me grr. |
