The older stuff is better. More thought out.
The newer metal....well, I get bored with after a few listens, and it's becoming harder to distinct between bands.......it all sounds more and more alike. Not many artists these days are "playing" (thinking) outside the box.
But I think this applies to most genres of music these days. All lot of it just sounds generic and "eh".
