I remember when I went snowboarding with a discman in my pocket. Now bear in mind a CD is only about 70mins long.....U2 is a great band, but after about the 10th repeat of 'Achtung Baby' it got a bit, well.....repetitive. Now I have a tiny little Sony 2Gig MP3, thats about 1000 tunes, and I put it on full random, and somehow it seems to know what I want to hear while riding. It went from: If you'r going to San Francisco, while carving powder with long lazy turns, to Queen, to The Police, just when the song was appropriate for the terrain.
Here is what I have on my MP3: A-Ha Bob Dylan Bob Marley......while you be hotboxin' it in the gondola.....ya mon....one good thing about music when it hits you feel ok.....Trenchtown rock..... Chris Isaak Coldplay Creedence Clearwater Revival Crowded House David Bowie Dire Straits Fine Young Cannibals Fleetwood Mac Gipsy Kings Johnny Cash Men At Work Neil Young Oliver 'Tuku' Mtukudzi.....African music. Pet Shop Boys Queen Simon & Garfunkel Simple Minds Supertramp Talking Heads The Moody Blues Soundtrack from the Movie: The Boat That Rocked.....get it, both the movie and the soundtrack, such a good film. The Cure The Police And last, but not least, U2. It's taken a while to compile that list, and I do add and subtract from time to time, but I can't have it all, so this is what I have on it right now. And yes, I am old school, shit, I even have a cassette walkman somewhere and could copy my vinyl collection on to tape and play that on the slopes, get me 90mins of playtime ......but I am under 40 years of age....

I have a playlist on my ipod that runs to about 6 hours, but last time i was out, i got the timing just right so that as i was getting on the lift, "Layla" by Clapton (the Derek and The Dominoes version) was playing and it kicked into the piano riff (you know, the bit from Goodfellas where they discover all of the bodies). it was a nice sunny day, so i got to kick back with that, and then just as i got off and was strapping in, the next song on the list was "Let Me Clear My Throat" by DJ Kool, so that was what i launched down the hill to. pretty nice...
