Good Quality Durable Earbuds - Snowboarding Forum

I just broke my ipod headphones again and I don't want to waste another $45 on those crappy earbuds. What kind of earbuds do you guys like? I need something that is pretty durable. When I used some of the cheap skull candy earbuds the buds came right off. My price range is $40 max.

I got some Beats by dre and had them only 6 months before they broke (shorted out in one ear). I went to radio shack, and they have some warranty deal where you buy something (in my case, 40 dollar pair of skull candy ear buds) and if they break within the year, they give you a credit for the cost of the product. The warranty was only 5 bucks extra, and you don't have to save your receipt... It was maybe 10 bucks for 2 years. Worth it in my opinion, especially when you take them in the cold and are actively moving at the same time. The metals/plastics in all ear buds will be more susceptible to breaking in the cold. Doesn't matter if they are 5 dollars or 100.

You could go through dogfunk.com as well and just send them back when they break...

If you want awesome sound, comfort and quality for $40? Panasonic. I know its not the "coolest" brand, but compare the specs to any expensive buds like bose and sennheiser, they are right there. Skullcandy are just trendy shiny things that sell to kids but sound like tin.

Heres a quick comparison between some random skullcandy phones for $50 and these panasonic and some high end sennheisers:

SC: Frequency Response: 20Hz - 20KHz
Pan: Frequency response 6Hz – 24kHz
Senn: Frequency response 16Hz - 24KHz

Trust me, you will notice the range.

Edit* These are also super comfortable, most headphones hurt my ears after a while, but these can stay in for hours and your toque/helmet wont move them around if you wear them riding.

Not cheap but awesome are the Sure headphones they fit like in ear monitors. Mine fit awesome even with a snug helmet.

I love a good pair of IEMs, I've easily spent over $1000 in the past year alone. It's sad.

Anyway, best value I've found are (surprisingly) Yamaha EPH-100. Roughly $140 bucks, that easily beat out my $400 pair of Davis Tributes and easily compare to other $300+ IEMS. I love them. I recently lost my set, but I'll be buying another just for snowboarding.

WTF?!! I paid $4.99 for a pair of off brand ear buds at grocery outlet and they sound fine and are super comfortable.

I'm with you. I wear headphones at work nearly every day and I just buy $8 Auvio earbuds from RadioShack. They sound as good as I need them to (a lot better than those iPod ones), and I don't care if I destroy them. I replace them a couple of times a year when I wind up breaking a cord or dunking them in water. I'm kinda thinking about buying a few pairs at once next time in case they stop making them.

If cheap earbuds do the trick, then stick with them. I used to not be able to tell the difference and life was much simpler and cheaper haha. I can't say that I regret being somewhat of an audiophile, I've learned a lot and love the sound certain equipment can produce. Stay away from places like Head-Fi.org - Headphone forums and reviews for audiophiles

If you're looking for awesome sound at an inexpensive price, I'll stick with my recommendation of the EPH-100's. Otherwise, just head down to bestbuy, radioshack or walmart and buy whatever you're willing to spend. The earphones that iPod provides are shit, so it shouldn't be hard to find something better.

Also, I'm an idiot, didn't notice you're spending $40 max. Ignore me.
