The change in Music
U know, as we go thru life very little changes about ourselves. We basically remain who we are from birth to ashes. However that doesnt mean that things around us do not change. Sometimes we dont even realize these changes occur. We seem to be the same we were 5,10,25,30years ago and because we remain true we might not realize how much the world in general changes. Sometimes it takes a conversation with someone else your age or approx that it hits u....wow things are different.
So...how does all that typing above relate to music?? Well it does for what was conceived to be a modern type of music back years ago, music that even today not only do I listen too but my sons as well, is now considered to be classified as "oldies" as far as music goes.
As I was taking my cougar to get inspected this am, I was flipping thru the channels. I came across one that had an aerosmith, eric clapton and a jim croche tune on it. Then they played some eagles. What shocked me was during the break of songs the station ad came on....to me this was soft classic rock...the station..was an "oldies" station.
To me "Oldies" was 50's...shit I didnt like. Now its late 60's and 70's and even some 80's....It amazed me that one could conceive Stephen Tyler to be classified musically as "oldies", Jim Croche...ok, eagles?? no.
About an hour ago I went to the bank. The teller in the window who is close to my age likes to hear my music I play. Today she told me that she turned on the oldies station by error and they were playing styx. She said " I cant beleive they play styx as oldies...god dont tell me I am getting old".
I smiled, put the car in drive and said...with a smile. "yea u r, U just didnt realize it"

i would agree with you, that stuff is classic rock. the "oldies" station where i am does the same thing, it's basically just a soft classic rock station, with a couple songs thrown in every now and then that i would actually consider oldies. i don't think they should try to take the name through the generations of music. is 50 cent and eminem gonna be oldies some day?

its oldies because its not the latest pop song, being on a classic or old radio station doesn't make it 'old' it means 16 year olds cant 'solja boi' to it.

When Nirvana and Sublime make it to the oldies stations, can we all get a support group going?

I actually find myself listening to a lot of older stuff like Disco and Motown. New mainstream music = garbage
