|killclimbz||Well normally I would say that you can find the powder in the trees. I was talking about late March to April conditions, after we've been through a freeze/thaw cycle. Generally speaking when it's those windy, icy conditions, the trees are generally refrozen breakable crust and suck big time. If there has been snowfall recently, it can be quite the opposite of that too.|

1. Warm slushy days can be every bit as good as a powder day. Bowls, wide open slopes can be just a blast in those conditions. I am a powder hound by nature, but I love the warm spring days, riding in a t shirt. Absolutely glorious.
2. You can get full on powder days in March. It's historically Colorado's snowiest month. Though the last 3 seasons have been a bit of a disappointment, we can get absolutely smoked. Four years ago Winterpark got over 80" out of one storm in March. It was amazing and set up the year for one of the strongest finishes I have seen. May 19th was a full on blower powder day in the backcountry that year. Over two feet deep with great coverage everywhere. It'll happen again.
3. What you are worried about is the windy, blustery, cold days with little snowfall. Especially after a warming trend. It turns everything to ice and in general it just sucks. Those are my most frequent ORD's (one run days) .
Overall the coverage is at it's best for the season in March. So it's a good month to bet on.

i try and go out to co twice a year. once in dec and once in spring. In dec i would say its colder, the park not complete and some on the runs are quite fully covered with snow. In spring its warmer, the park looks good, but the snow can be a little slushy. I think the dates ur thinking of would be good.
And what do u think good conditions are. Tons of snow, or Warm, sunny

Colorado in the spring
So I'm planning a second, tenative trip out to Vail this coming March. I have a few friends living out there, so the living expenses are cheap!
I haven't been out there later than December in past seasons. I was wondering how late you can ride and anticipate good conditions. I understand we aren't wizards or even meteorologists, but how late into March would you consider "too late" to ride?
I am currently looking at flight dates around March 9th or 16th. Thanks!
