I mean, just look at the discounts on K2 and Ride boards every year. Anyone who is buys that stuff new, full retail is, uhm...a little misinformed...

I got the Proto at a deep discount too. I'll probably break even or make a few bucks on the Proto on ebay. scotty, I'm a gear whore. No board lasts more than a season for me. That's not good, it's actually bad since I've sold some good boards (Arbor Coda being the most notable), but that's just who I am. I love snowboarding. I also love new gear and trying it out. It is what it is

Snowboarding is 4 months out of the year. The other 8 is spent drooling over gear so that's where my gear slutiness comes from.

I'm just stoked you're helping your brother out. I did something similar for my little bro. When I was living in CO, he moved out to room with me. I already had a job making decent money, but he was fresh out of high school. He spent all the extra money he had on gear, and he was waiting tables so he couldn't afford a pass, much less lift tickets on a regular basis, so I bought his season pass. I didn't even think about wanting him to pay me back. To this day, that was the best season I've ever had. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

And to OP, that's a good deal on the Evo, I'd snag it up

Some might suggest it's a reasonable indicator of quality.

jdang307 Nothing wrong with it, but something wrong with me. Around the same time buying it, I grabbed a K2 WWW because, well it was $140 new. Now, these two are not the same. The Proto is much more capable all-mtn than the WWW. I do feel it is a more aggressive park board that can handle the rest of the mountain. But after it softens up (which it hasn't yet), I'll have two soft park boards, one that is mid-flex, and one that is slightly stiffer than the noodle.

The Proto was stable, but did get pushed around at the end of a pow day so I want something more aggressive. Maybe even camber. We'll see. It's a fun board, high quality, strong base as always. If I didn't have the WWW, I'd keep it 100%. I can see it as being perfect when it softens up as my park board for local mountains. If I had more money I'd sell the WWW and keep it
