Torn between wide and normal board

I've been riding a Never Summer Proto Ct 157 for the last 2 season and love the board. I want to get something a little more playful and have been looking at the NS Evo 4.0 154 for a while now. Definitely softer, want to stick with the rocker-camber profile. My only dilema is guys at the shop telling me I should get a wide board (NS Revolver) because I wear a size 12 in 32 Lashed. But I would think the wide board would defeat the purpose of going to a smaller 154 size board because it takes away some of the manuervability correct? I actually do not believe I have ever had an issue with heel/toe drag, I ride regular 15 front -12 rear. So all in all will a size 12 on the Evo 154 be an issue? Also are the wide boards that much slower edge to edge? or would it actually be a better board for me?
