From what I have read those TNF pants are insulated, but not overly insulated and require a base layer on real cold days.
They have vents to open if it's a warmer day.
I just checked and they are now $139 and I still get 20% off... Thinking about grabbing these.

I have a Patagonia nano puff and HW compressor for mid layers if it is really cold along with a UA cold gear ninja mask. As for pants I have some 686 cargos that have fleece liners for when it is really cold along with Burton and Arcteryx gore pants. I run kind of warm so I am unzipping for the run down the zipping back up for the ride up. The biggest question for you will be what gets cold first on you when it is -15c (5 F) for me it is my face so I just make sure I am really covered up.
I don’t love insulated pants cause once it is warm out they suck to wear but they do work great when it is really cold.

They are listed at $200 with 20% off. I have another coupon for an additional 20% off bring it down to ~$120.
Should I pull the trigger?

Layering vs Insulated Pants
I have always worn Insulated Snowpants. Some times I throw some Under Armor Cold Gear on underneath if it's really cold out (not sure if they are needed or not, I just do it).
Today I was looking for some new pants and the store I was in said they only had 1 pair of insulated pants and they recommend a shell and layering.
I have 2 pairs of UA Cold Gear that I can use as a base layer.
I've never tried a Base Layer + Shell, but I would think it wouldn't be warm enough on a -15 C day.
1. For a base layer, is UA Cold Gear sufficient or should I look at something else?
2. If I need a mid-layer, what do you suggest for a mid-layer?
3. I have a this jacket .
What pant/shell would you recommend?
