codzilla they were bombing the shit out of everything in bounds this morning. the gondola got moving an hour late and the alternative lift wasn't even running by 1. what i hadn't heard was that the bowl on the other side of the ridge from the main slide also went and slid down onto a cat track and main run from where the gondola unloads. this cat track and run were open with all the debris and a weird newly formed cornice right above it. i skipped that run... should be some footage of more explosives on that section later today, it sounds like they plan to go out it again after close. why the fuck not since they already destroyed the lift

DrnknZag ^^Very true. I just noticed that NWAC added wet slabs to their concerns west of the crest, which is new this year.

killclimbz Yeah, well if explosives are getting those sort of results think about what happens if you are a rider and hit that "sweet" spot. Not a good scenario.

DrnknZag ^^I think its just taking explosives to get things to go so big, but Crystal is the only place that has gotten things to go really big. Old Faithful went pretty big just outside of Stevens when we first started getting rain, but I don't think anything went to ground.

killclimbz Heh, kind of funny you say that. I was chatting with one of the NWAC guys yesterday and he said the stability has gotten better. If this is better it must have really sucked...

DrnknZag The video they originally posted was from control work on Sunday afternoon, which was a run called "Employee Housing" further on the north side of the resort. Campbell Basin is what slid yesterday. Bear Pits also went to ground as well. The huge amount of rain we've gotten is really affecting the snowpack.

codzilla there's a lift that drops off on a hill just below this one that was taken out which appears to still be open. no other lifts would be affected... although with temps getting into the 40's tomorrow I don't know what all they are going to open after something like this happened. their website also mentioned that a green run below the lift that was taken out is going to be closed for weeks due to debris. this run is my go to cruiser/side hit/tree run. oh well, stevens 2014/15 passes go on sale this week and I had planned to buy one anyway

I think the video they posted went up before the late afternoon when this happened, but they were definitely bombing in the area that day so it could have been related. interesting that the blog post doesn't address the lift being destroyed
