linvillegorge I'm not sure what you're asking to be honest. You already have a Skunk Ape, are you looking for something to compliment it or something to replace it? In terms of replacing it, NS doesn't really have anything all that similar in their lineup. My recommendation would probably be the Heritage X.

jdang307 Pick out a few boards, and then ask how they compare to the Skunk Ape. Hopefully someone will have experience on both.

Yeah, I certainly know you can't compare them across companies. But I got to imagine the board designer, marketer, or forklift driver in the warehouse rode the thing and thought: "yeah, thats a 6" as opposed to, "Call it a 6 cuz there's a hole in our product line up," or whatever...

You've ridden a different board everyday this season, yes? Have you ridden any of the NS mountain boards? How would YOU describe their torsional stiffness?

Having said that though, It looks like backcountry offers $6.99 return shipping even on boards, If I order 3 (Cobra X, Heritage X, Raptor X) I'd only be out $14. I think I might actually do that if I can't make it out to the basin to take up The Chairman's offer!

*Please be aware that none of the three boards listed above are available here in the Twin Cities right now except for one Cobra and it is a 158 non "X"...

I've got $240 in store credit at Backcountry burning a hole in my, er, wallet and I figure I may as well take advantage of some of these end of season deals. I currently use a Skunk Ape, and can't imagine going any softer. I want an NS, but they don't appear to make anything that I would think of as med-stiff at least as interpreted from their literature. Although I may make it to a-basin one more time this spring, it is unlikely that I would be able to demo anything so any thoughts would be great....
Hey boron,

We had a couple people here at our company that also wanted something a little more stout underfoot than some of the boards that were currently in our line. Our International Sales Manager Tony Sasgen is a beefy, 225lb guy who is a powerful rider was one of these guys. One of the reason we developed the Ripsaw is to have a stiffer board offered. All of our boards have multi-glass construction with a sheet of biaxial, uni and pretensioned fiberglass. The Ripsaw has all this plus 2-sheets of a burly +/-45 degree fiberglass laminate. I think the Ripsaw has the flex you're looking for but find out for yourself. I would be willing to meet you at the Basin and let you use one of my personal boards. The mashed taters are so tasty on Pali right now. You would be doing yourself an injustice by not getting up there another time this season. Send me a PM and let me know if you want to meet up.

Another stiffer board in our line is the Chairman. I think a lot of guys coming off Skunk Apes are going to like this board as well, especially the 173! The Chairman features a carbon X that runs from outside insert to outside insert to outside insert stiffen the mid-flex of the board in a long turn and extended carbon V's on the bottom of the core.
