Longboarding

With all intentions to get this thread started as maybe a general longboard chat thread...i though I would start off with my own experiences, as an honest (only slightly ashamed) novice to longboarding.

Ey, so I just recently got into longboarding. I just peeled an Original Apex 37 deck with original S8 trucks (Spring) for 100 bucks off a neighbor. I immediately put on some 74 orangotangs (Purple) and poped the bones swiss's bearings that I've had for several years for an old skate deck.

I've put 10 hours on that setup so far, and I've already bombed some moderate hills and learned my 2 hand slides at low speed. Almost ready to take them to pendulums. Despite the quality of the setup (which i do recognize is a good board), im having royal problems.

Main problem right now is that this board is DAMN unstable. I can get down hills, but its a balancing act to keep from speed wobling. Hell, i can even push with this board through the flats without having the board snake out from under me and leaving me on my ass. And I am not some dumbass who just picked up a board, I already have been skateboarding for 10 years and snowboarding for 11. Both ambitiously, so i'm pretty damn sure of what I am doing. Trucks are as tight as I can get them, but due to the construction (which I blame heavily) the trucks do not return to center position. And it takes no effort at all to tilt the trucks all the way from one side to the other, making them very very sensitive. The other problem is that it doesnt exactly feel as good as I would like under my feet. Despite the soft flex, it feels awkward due to maybe how short the board is to what I previously have ridden.

Well enough of my ranting... what should I be looking for in the future in terms of boards and trucks? I'm primarily looking for stability, comfort and slide-ability.

Thanks for reading through all of this thick text.
