This question keeps popping up, I really think it wouldent have happened or at least not as bad. They tried to start shit during the olympics but I feel like the people who wanted to celebrate and have a good time vastly outnumbered the trouble makers, and it never got off the ground. With the stanley cup finals it was expected the canucks would bring home the cup after having such a stellar season, but in the end all of our best players shit the bed and no one stepped up. I'm not saying some people wouldent have tried to start a riot if we won, I just feel like if we won the cup the majority of people would rather have been high fiving in the streets than destroying it. Since we lost and lost badly and people in the city had been drinking since the AM, it was all the spark needed to ignite the crowd.

freshy The facebook tag the douchebag rioters page - At least some of these comments are funny

The riots after the game made me sick to my stomach. I was actually right downtown at ground zero ready to celebrate, watching the big screen that got messed up by beer bottles standing right by the post office where the first vehicle got flipped. I left right when the clock hit zero tho, dident feel like partying after such a humiliating loss, the vibe was just full of hate, and some assholes were lighting off fire works and home made explosives in the crowd, so it was an easy decision to go home. I dident actually see any of the riot in person, I think I would have either thrown up or tried to stop some of the madness but that would have landed me in the hospital I'm sure. Glad I had my skateboard because 2 different people tried to pick a fight with me so I had a weapon if needed, and speedy transportation. Once I was out of the downtown core I could see a huge plume of black smoke rising above the city.
I really dident think we would have a riot, I thought we were going to win for one, and I thought the popo would be prepared for something like that. Sick of all the excuses, "it was a small group of people" they keep saying. Fuck that if you dident leave you were a part of it. If you brought your bandana or balaclava to watch the game you are beyond a douche bag.

So glad this dickhead got busted, apparently his dad is a doctor.

NWBoarder Oh man, that first picture in the link is priceless! Who does that in the middle of a riot?! Craziness!

killclimbz It sounds like that was the plan regardless win or lose. I know when the Avalanche won their first Stanley cup here, there was some rioting. Same thing for the Denver Broncos. Though I don't think any cars were burned, and I don't remember any looting either.

Flick Montana I wonder what the odds are they would have done the same crap even if their team won. Probably pretty good.

killclimbz It does look like you had some semi organized hooligans that had every intent of causing this sort of problem. They provided the spark. So my apologies to the city of Vancouver. I hope they can round these douches up.

Sounds like it was an organized group intent on getting in some looting by starting a riot.

I think our Canadian mentality is better exemplified by the hundreds of Canuck fans who showed up this morning lugging brooms brought from home and started cleaning the place up.
