im pretty sure that as you get better you're working harder without noticing it, but your calves notice it. my calves are sore right now as i am typing this. i think its normal, eventually it should subside. also you maybe on your toe edge a bit more than your heels.
do your calves feel sore? or is there a distinct shooting pain.
either way i think you're overthinking it and considering this sport i would say its normal.

Pain in my calves.
Recently when I snowboard I get these shooting pain on the side of my calves both in the front and in the back. It is on the outer part, in other words the sides, and I have noticed them kicking in strongly when doing either nose or tail presses.
Why does this pain happen? I'm not sure and I'm hoping for some help.
I'm fairly new at this sport as its been less than a season I have been doing it but I do stretch before every session and even a small stretch after it. I have looked around if others have encounters this and indeed did.Many claim that it may be that it is because they are fairly new and their muscles are getting use to it. I would like to agree but since the hills have opened this year I've been roughly 25 times and this has only begin to happen within the last 5 sessions.
My bindings are -15,15 and the highbacks are parallel to the board. This is what I've been riding since I have basically began.
As for the boots, I have the K2 Pulse and I am debating whether or not this can be an issue.
