zk0ot Looks like ptex from the 80s.

onefutui2e interesting stuff, i had no idea about the p-tex bit.

anyway, i spoke with the owner and he said we'll work something out if i end up not liking how it rides. he was pretty friendly about it and offered to give me a discount on anything the next time i come by. i told him that if it rides the same, if nothing's permanently damaged, etc. then i'm not going to push the issue because aesthetics aren't ever my concern.

i'm attaching a picture of the board itself for reference. the surface feels fine, but the top part with the black spots is not 100% smooth (feels like your skin when you have goosebumps).

Nope, you are perpetuating an old myth. Once again, Ptex does not have pores - none at all, zero, nada.
What Ptex does have is an amorphous surface with lots of nooks, crannies, ridges, and little 'valleys' - this is what it looks like magnified:

And wax is not absorbed into the base, it adheres to this surface structure.

zk0ot ptex is porous. if they did something that melted it, it could have altered enough to take wax differently. they may have permanantly altered the base material. you can tell them if you may not notice it now. but maybe some issues down the road you dont want to deal with.
