CassMT if the base edge really has nothing i would just de-burr the side, or sharpen if you like...if it's not to bad the have these gum-stone lil bars, i forget what they are called...

this may be wrong, but it works for me...i probably hit the sides twice as often at the base edge, just for the scenario you describe...lightly though, if its already sharp for the most part...otherwise you'll have no edges by the end of the season!

Normally the nicks from hitting rocks protrude sideways instead of towards the base of the board.

I tried with my finger sliding across the edges. It's smooth along the base edge and it hurts on the side edge.

So I should only polish the side edge?
