First time heading out west? My first advice: Skip Denver/front range and ride Jackson Hole. There are a multitude of reasons why doing this will make your trip better. (Crowds, terrain, transportation)

However if you are dead set on the front range.... if it is your first trip out, just sack up and find a rental that is within a 5 minute walk of one of the many lifts in Breck. Take it easy your first day and first night (no boozing it up, get plenty of water) or else the altitude will hit you hard.

Shuttles from the airport to Breck are ~ $100 each way. Car rental will cost you ~$40 a day Plan to spend at least a day traveling.

Mystery2many I'm about to head to the airport now. Breck bound.

I make this trip twice a year every year.

Ok so.
Fly to Denver. Yes
Weekdays. Yes
Try to find a hotel on the free shuttle route and within a few blocks from downtown (walking distance). Try to avoid Craigslist. There are tons of sites. Vrbo, flipkey etc.

Know how many days you are staying and buy a multi day pass on breck site. See the discount.

If your new to high altitude don't ride the first day. And don't drink too much (1 beer will feel like 3) Water and relax.

Rent a car or get the shuttle. Depending on where you stay.

A breck lift ticket works for keystone as well.

That's all I can think of right now. I didn't sleep a wink.
