Psi-Man A good friend of mine had to get airlifted from Cozumel to Florida. It was an obvious emergency and it cost him $17K. Insurance picked up $3k and he had to pay the $14k before the plane left the ground. It was a double whammy because it turned out to be brain cancer and he was in very bad shape when he finally made it back to RI. It's something I never really thought of in the past, but I would buy it now if traveling.

Argo I have a policy that includes medical air evacuation from anywhere in the world back to the US. I actually negotiated this policy into the purchase of one of my timeshares.

boarderaholic I ALWAYS get travel insurance as soon as I leave the country. Sometimes random shit happens, and it's good to have your bacon covered.

marauder Yeppp, I always did and never had a doubt about it, especially after seeing some nasty accidents on the mountain, blood spills, special rescue ops, helicopters etc. Provided that a person is lucky enough to survive and recover, someone always has to pay these costly bills, you get the picture!
