linvillegorge As Hank suggested, it would be a logistical nightmare for the Olympics. Just too many variables at play. You need good snowfall, you need to create a way for spectators to watch, you would have to create a judging system. No way the IOC would go for it. Remember when the winter Olympics were in BC and it wasn't snowing? They had to bring in snow by the truckload to build parks, pipes, etc. That wouldn't be feasible for building a big mountain course. I'd love to see it, but it's not gonna happen.

The only problem with that is the cost/logistics. They would be enormous, especially considering the fact that the IOC mandates that there be a certain amount of seating and amenities for every event... which means that they would ALSO have to fly out a crowd, bleachers, support staff, bathrooms, food, etc. to the backcountry. No way they'd go for that.

Fair enough. I dig the tricks and I especially like how in that event, it's NOT "spin to win", it's about working the natural terrain and having fun. It's one of the only types of events where style can win over everything else.

Argo Fwt doesn't matter too much on conditions, if it's low snow it makes the runs more technical. My son does the junior tour, they share the same US venues. They are intense when there is low snow..... The.judging is totally different than a supernatural event judging. based on scoring and what not it would take the big name guys you lister a lot to get to the top of the qualifying list of fwt. riding big pow lines is not technical or what judging looks for. They give higher scoring for gnarly Rocky cliffy technical lines. Jones or XDLR would be more suited.for it... Not better or worse than the other big names just totally different.

Hell, Sochi is still being built and having to truck snow in, and in the Vancouver Olympics, they were hurting for snow too.

The Supernatural contests definitely provide their fill of entertainment though, so there's no need for the Olympics.

Freeriding+Olympics=?

Thoughts on freeride skiing and snowboards in the Olympics? Essentially just FWT in the Olympics.
