larrytbull yes, I hear the sliding on some of the turns. Speed has been one of my issues, still getting used to it, when going down steeper terrain. Hoping to get out this weekend weather permitting to try some of the main threads

1. lose the backpack
2. knees bent and loose
3. arms down


I will also add the shorter turns as well

no_bad_snow Get low and loose like everyone else says. Try making turns 3 times faster then you did in that video; even if you don't want to ride like that it will help you with your sweeping turns.

Work on carving instead of sliding turns; I'm seeing maybe 50% sliding 50% carving component in a single turn. Do you hear sliding noises?

Get Jelly...at the top of the hill...just wiggle, shake and hop up and down...shake out the stiffness.

For bending the knees...drill this...squat down, keep back straight and rest your forearms on just above the knees....do this for a quarter of the run (while linking turns from the squat position)...to turn toeside use your leading knee; drive it toward the center of the toeside turn and weight your big toe/ball of your leading foot....for heelside turns swing your leading knee forward to the nose and feel the weight on the outside of your leading foot or little toe. You should also notice that your leading shoulder will follow your leading knee and move 2-4 inches toeside and heelside...that way your upper body is aligning/coordinating...remember this is all from the squat position.


Then stand up and yet be loose for a qtr of the run...then back down/up.

Next run, do the same squat link two turns (one toeside, one heel side) then up-link 2 turns, and down...repeat for the whole run.

Third run or later practice squating down at the initiation of the turn (both for the toeside and heel side) and stand up at the compleation of the turn.

Also when standing up, glue your elbows to your ribs....ya don't need your arms them flaying about

Argo If he wants it, he will carry it. I'm guessing he will say he doesn't want it and leave it behind. I have made my son carry everything from 6 years old on.... Now he only carries avy gear as needed with a back pack

larrytbull Thanks guys.. that is good feedback. It seems like my knees are a common thread. Knees have always been my weak point. Been through a few surgeries and possibly on way for a third. BigmountainVMD Gotta lose that huge backpack until you get more comfortable on the board.

I agree with the stiffness comments. Use your knees like shock absorbers, not peg legs.

My best tips would be 1. focus on bringing your hips forward on your toe side. Like full on hip thrust. This aligns your hips, knees and toes over the toe edge of the board = more control and confidence. Bring the hips back for the heel side, but not a full on sitting position. You want your body position to be symmetrical to your toe side, so just align your hips over your heels for heel side turns.

Once you do that, 2. start leaning your whole body (board included) to start some carved turns. You really need to tilt that board on edge to get the carve going. Imagine there is someone downhill of you and you want to show them the bottom of your board while turning. This will get you making carved turns and really clean up everything you are doing.

Bones Try to stop the back arm from sneaking out in front of you, keep it over the tail.

Bend your knees more, get lower.

Loosen up the lower body and start initiating the turns with your feet and knees.

Pretty good though.

t21 OK,by the time you read mine someone would have pointed it out to you. YOU are riding stiff! I can see your knees are bent but, your whole body is rigid. Relax, loosen up on your turns by initiating with your front foot with a slight lean forward and your knees and pushing your shin into your boot. put your hands down, keep them to your side as much as possible. Heelside turns is a bit ehhh too The biggest problem i saw on your vid is when you turn to your toe side(facing uphill), your heeledge is so close to catch an edge because you do not have enough angle on your toe edge. One lazy turn and you'd smack your noggin backwards! I did mention that your knees are bent but you need them to be loose as well to absorb bumps and initiating turn will be easier. Keep riding and stay relax.

yeah the backpack is to keep my kids hoodie and other bits. As it is getting warmer here and I hate having to go to car to put coat away.
