156 will be fine for you, I weigh a little bit more and ride a 158.
I also bought mine for Aus/Japan and can speak from experience that it is perfect for me except in very deep powder, on some deep sections in Niseko I really wished I had a bigger/powder board with me but overall im glad i went with the board I have. My powder issues would have been helped by more practise more so than a more suitable board would have been.
Only issue with a 156 for you might be your sice 12 feet, check boot sizes and waist widths before buying.

|m_jel||i range between 175-185 and i've only ridden a 155, next year i'm gonna try a 156 or 7, so you'll be fine|

|DC5R||I weight the same as you and IMO, I'd size down to a 152 or 154. I ride a 152 for both park and AM without any issues.|

156 Going to short???
Just about to pick up a new board of 09/10 season Aus/Japan.
basicly I was thinking 156 Rome Slash (Wide)
I have a size 12 Boot. Im 187cm (6,1) tall. And im about 78kg (171 pounds).
Is that going to short my mate reckons it is. But ive been on a 162 Burton Duce Wide fkn massive heavy plank. i rode a 156 non wide while in canada for a day and it felt amazing.
So my questiong is it going too short? I wanna ride park and AM
