Does anybody know a good place to stay in Winter park or Vail? I don't need a fancy 5 star hotel, but not a dirty flophouse either...
I stayed at the Beaver Village Lodge in Winter Park in Feb. It is a 70's style lodge and I loved it. Nothing fancy, but nonstop hot water in the shower and super high flow. It was like getting a massage. It was $52 a night through expedia.com. Great breakfast as well.

I will stay there again in the future.

Big Foot My friends were telling me about a really nice hostel in Vail for something like $45 a night. I forget the name but I'm sure google would help you.

monkeytine Try Groupon.com to find the best deals on hotels. I always stay with friends, so I don't know the hotels there too well, but most are going to be pretty nice and clean, even the cheaper ones.

16gkid I had great luck last year when i went out there mid late april, only places open were a-basin and loveland but there was a foot of fresh snow waiting every morning

monkeytine You listed the 2 best resorts (in my opinion) so you should enjoy yourself no matter what at either Vail or Winter Park. Winter Park tends to be less crowded, and is a little bit closer, but not closer enough to make it sway your decision. Just see which one has the most runs open when you're out here. Or try to go to both!

As others stated, you won't know how bad the roads are until you're literally driving on them. Sometimes it can snow and it be a "traction-y" snow that is easy to get around in, other times it can appear to be a harmless, light snow but be super slippery and dangerous. Try to rent something with all-wheel-drive if you can. Then you'll be fine.

vertking CDOT app looks like it could be helpful...

jeephreak x2 on the cdot mobile app.

best bet is to keep an eye on the weather and the resort pages. By then it could be real iffy or really rad.

isnowreport is also a good app, but by then may be pointless.

Big Foot I use opensnow.com to monitor predicted snowfall. For road conditions I use the CDOT app on my phone which gives you details on delays and closures.

As far as where to ride I can't make any suggestions because I generally ride the wrong mountain at the wrong time.
