legallyillegal water keeps a uniform surface area for which heat to transfer away from your items

(cold is simply the lack of heat)

pawel i keep the water untill i get more ice, than drain it.

tomtom88 I've personally always kept it. My reasoning is that once you remove that water, the ice then has to cool the now abundant air present inside the cooler. Keeping the water in will help maintain a cooler temp. along with the remaining ice. As long as all your stuff is in baggies and whatnot.

kel-C-hotsauce the water will still be cold so keep it i guess??

Camping cooler question

As the ice melts in your cooler, is it better to drain off the water, or leave it...which will keep your ice longer?
