saudade101 after much self-debate, I ended up picking the 2009 Burton Mayhem. Would've gone with the Burton Custom, but happy with all it's specs anyway, and from what I've read it's quite similar anyway. Can't wait to see it, it feels great buying a first board!!!

jtchompy i think if your a confident rider you will be fine, it might be more of a challenge handling it than your previous board but i don't think it should be an issue. there are of course alternatives to the custom x from other companies, not sure how your situation is as far as which brands your local stores will sell, but if you are taking trips around the world and are looking to get better i think you'll be happy with it. most people say its overwhelming for people who are looking to buy their first board like the name burton once and decide to buy an expensive board not knowing what they are getting into, but it sounds perfect for what you are looking to do.

Trouble with picking a board

hey guys, I'm relatively new on the snowboarding scene, and am buying my first set up for a trip into the Alps early 2010.
Living in Perth Australia it's hard getting advise from people (other than the internet) because snowboarding is not huge at all. We only have 2 stores in a city of nearly 2 million that sells boards, and even then the store people don't know too much about the scene.
So to my problem......
Im having doubts about my ability after hearing great reviews on the Burton Custom X. I dont want to buy it and be completely overwhelmed by its ability. I've snowboarded in europe a bit, Austria, Poland and Slovakia, and recently came back from an amazing trip in Japan. Fell in love with powder, and started doing tree runs in the last 7 days of the trip. I consider myself an OK rider, I can ride switch at a decent speed, comfortable through thick pow, and confident all over the mountain.

If I buy the Custom X, is the board going to dominate me? Money is not an issue, I just want something that I can really progress into.

Cheers
