Help needed - planning an Oregon trip in March

Hey guys. Posted this in the NorthWest thread but I'll post a thread here in case it gets some more love.

I'm hoping some Oregon locals and some folk who go there often might be able to help me out with something:

My girlfriend and I are going on a big overseas trip early next year. We're going to have about four days in Oregon from March 6th - March 9th, and I thought it'd be awesome to get some snowboarding in there.

I was initially hoping to stay at Timberline, but I think that might be a touch out of our price range - staying just one night would be an option, but lack of transport from Portland and then back in is an issue for us. It looks like a better move is going to be to find some cheaper accommodation in Government Camp or somewhere else nearby.

My current plan is that we'll stay in Government Camp, snowboarding an evening / lit session at SkiBowl the first evening (we're only getting into Portland early-mid afternoon), and then have two full days at Mt Hood Meadows after that. Obviously I'm not familiar with the skifields and resorts there, so if people recommend others above that, and they're viable options (remembering we have no real mode of transport), lemme know.

I've found some companies operating shuttles from Portland for about $40 USD - are there much cheaper shuttles from Government Camp? Would we be able to hitch-hike up the mountain fairly easily? Especially since we won't have any gear of our own; we're renting.

Opinions / suggestions / recommendations would all be welcome.

Also, if anyone who lives nearby and would be going up at the same time is super rad + generous enough to help a couple Kiwis out with accommodation and transport, that'd be much appreciated and would be repaid with delicious cooking and copious amounts of beer.

Thanks guys,
Benj.
