Helmet Audio Prob

I have a smith holt with skull candy audio system. The setup is pretty sweet. However the connector cable from the helmet to the ipod broke. Ive tried to replace them with standard 3.5mm audio jack cable but when I move around the audio is extremely scratch. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or get a new cable that would work..??????
