DiscoStu nah I've thrashed shitty bikes around plenty of trails before, we don't ride hard just do it for fun...
Any recommendations on places? That's really what I'm after here

maf05r6 I was thinking the same thing. Even a cheap walmart bike is going to be more than that. check out ebay or try to find something on craigslist.

Good luck with the trip.

You probably find a descent used hard tail for $500 that you could ride the piss out of. Check ebay, mtbr classifeds and pink buy/sell for some good deals on used bikes. Just be careful...ask for lots of good close up pictures if you take this route.

I have never mtb in oregon, but I know there is lots of epic riding there...

Mountain biking + Oregon

Hey all,
I'm doing a road trip through the States in Spring, looking to buy a cheap-ass mountain bike (i.e <$100) and ride as much as I can for as cheap as possible..
Anyone have any tips on where to ride around Portland in May?

I've done a bit of riding at home, I'm not an expert by any means but I love single track stuff
